Happy ending to the story.

BTW I think bikes dying while idling up to a stop sign can be due to the motor running slower, therefore the alternator turning slower, therefore the alternator outputting a lower voltage, just enough lower to no longer be able to overcome the higher electrical loss (ie resistance) at the loose connection.

Had a friend once with a CBR and a similar issue. His problem ended with a tow and a mass of melted wires under the tank. Not sure what caused it be inspect your wiring harness.
