Need help picking a new exhaust!
01/03/17 3:38 PM

Hello gentlemen!

Just bought a 2016 Zx-14r se recently and I've already got the mod bug. I installed a yoshimura fender eliminator and some shogun frame sliders. Biggest question is the exhaust though. I see a lot of people buying the Brock's full CT systems in sure there is some merit there just a bit out of my price range. Revzilla has a leovince factory R evo 2 slip on for sale at about $975. I was also looking at the alien Head or short megs from Brock's which are about 400-500 more. I'd like to have something a bit louder than usual for two reasons, one I like loud bikes and second I live in Miami where if you don't have loud pipes... well it helps. Very new to the scene so be gentle! Any help is appreciated!

Welcome inordt91...I've got the M4 slip ons. Love the looks, sound, and no need for fuel mapping. Run around $600.

Aloha inordt91, I've just removed a Brocks Alien head from my 2012 that I bought last year. Went RCC turbo on my 2015 so it's for sale. I can text you pictures if you have any interest. 603-361-3317 I'm in Hawaii which is 5 hours behind EST. Looking for $750 shipped, Thanks, Rick B...

Revzilla has a leovince factory R evo 2 slip on for sale at about $975.

#1) Don't buy slipons if they cost almost as much as a full system.

.I've got the M4 slip ons. Love the looks, sound, and no need for fuel mapping. Run around $600.

#2) Retrodrags are very attractive, good sound and about as light as you will find in slipons. I'd go with those if I really felt I had no appreciation for a full systems increased power and better weight loss.

Brock's Dual CT full system. Go big or go home!

#3) Now we're talking. I'd check the numbers with a few other racing people....I believe you will get as good of a pipe with the CT meg....been years since I researched into this. AlienHead might be as good with a bit louder note.

I've just removed a Brocks Alien head from my 2012 that I bought last year. Went RCC turbo on my 2015 so it's for sale.

#4) If it's in decent shape, I'd take that and run. Good way to try a full system and you may well never want to replace it. Little scuffed up, just have it ceramic coated before you install and it will be good as new.

I had the CT Meg on my '13. Numbers were almost identical. 202/119.

For the price difference, the CT Meg is a far better value. It also cleans up the rear of the bike a lot if you don't like dual exhaust.

Another great option is Hindle. Their new Evo cans are great looking, and a full system is only around $1,000. Much better performance than any slipons.

There was speculation some years back about whether Hindle was actually making Brock's exhausts. Hindle had a system that looked identical to the Alienhead 1.

Not sure about the alien head Rook but my CF Hindle has 'by Brocks' on it. Sorry about the crappy crop from a bigger picture.

Maybe I have that backwards. Perhaps it was supposed to be Brock who was making the pipes and selling to Hindle. I think the Hindle was slightly thicker metal or something. One guy around here bought a Hindle A-head a few years back and he swore by it. It was no different than a Brocks just a tad heavier. Dogozx14 was the guy and he was very knowledgable. LOL made his own fuel map from scratch with Autotune and this was before anyone even had a flash on a 14.

Thanks for all the help!

"I've just removed a Brocks Alien head from my 2012 that I bought last year."

Thanks for the offer Fordtech58 but I think I'll go with either the shortmeg or a new Alien head II, unless the one you have is a II?

And I would go with the full dual system if I had $2,300 laying around :)

I just ordered M4 slip ons for my 2014 Green and Black bike which will transform the machine into an aggressive sounding and slick looking machine. I went for M4 after much research because I'm just concerned about the looks and sound over additional performance, which is way over my head from the get go! I'm excited to actually hear the engine rather than just have my eye on the tach, which makes little sense for riding. Stock, it's so quiet that you end up looking at gauges to keep involved with the bike and I wear earplugs all the time so the noise won't "bother" me except on a long trip and then I'll just stop now and then for more coffee if the sound level it too high.

M4 now has an optional Q3 insert to cut down sound even more than the standard Q2 insert that they come with. So, for another 70 bucks you have that option of buying them and swapping out inserts.

Some people take the insert out altogether! I think I'll like mine just as they come, with the Stage 1 insert and PLENTY of exhaust note to enjoy as I ROLL ON the old throttle. LOL

Oh, and the cost of these sexy pipes in satin black finish.....way under a grand....like around 650!! I love how they look on a bike I saw on youtube on the Green and Black bike.....can't wait!!!

One important thing to consider when going with slipons with the 2016 models... they have an additional catalytic converter in the header pipe. With the previous gens, slipons got you the majority of your power because the cats were in the mufflers. Now, if you want good gains, the full system is required.

Good point TRAILBOSS...glad I was able to find a '15 holdover. It's got all the power I'll ever need for the riding I do. No racing here, just pick and choose my spots to hit triple digits occasionally.

Fordtech has the Alienhead 2. It's the same one I have on my 2012. Great sound, great looking, great quality, and great price from Fordtech. Better snatch it from him before someone else does.

If I do buy the exhaust from fordtech how much would it be to ceramic coat it black? Is there any disadvantage to wear and tear on an older exhaust vs a newer one? Is it noticable? Thanks for the help lads.

IDK that it needs ceramic coating for cosmetic reasons but if you feel it does, I believe it would be about $300 for the whole thing to be done. Or you could just rattle can it but guaranteed that will be scratched in one season. Go with a ceramic coater with a good rep. Ceramic coating is also supposed to have some performance benefit but I suspect this is minute compared to the overall improvement with a full system itself. Not like you could tune for ceramic coating. Some do the inside of the pipes as well as out if going for the razor edge. I would only do out, myself if it's cheaper.

So I bought Fordtech's exhaust, it arrived today. Question now is, is there a power commander out for 2016 models? Is it in my best interest to purchase it and install it the same time as my exhaust?

Aloha Lars, check out the last post in this section "Dyno room" SHOzx14 has a 2016 that he had done in Florida. Not sure how? it was "tuned" but it's worth a look and maybe a phone call to the tuner. Aloha, Rick B. and thanks again for your purchase!

Might look at Woolich Racing. They have a flash available for the 16 that eliminates our narrow band O2 sensor, eliminates speed restrictions and should be compatible/tunable with your new exhaust.
