Mirrors
03/27/22 3:28 PM

I've just taken the upper fairing of my 2008 ZX14 and whilst cleaning it a black rubber washer fell off.
It appeared to come from the the area where the mirrors fasten on. I most definitely did not encounter any of these washers when I took the mirrors off. I've looked on the parts list but they are not very clear. Can anybody confirm that there is, or is not rubber washers on the mirrors. If so where do they go? Or do I just have a rogue washer hiding out in the front fairing.
Thanks.

92200 is nylon. Did you pull the front faring off? Takes 19 of those. Might be that.

Is it rubber or plastic? The only rubber parts on the top cowl I remember are the well nuts for windscreen and the side fairings. If the nut portion cracked off a well nut, that might leave behind the stopper which would look like a flat rubber washer. There are a couple of rubber retainers for the headlight ballasts. Those look more like a rubber sleeve and they are on the meter/fairing stay bracket. There's a well nut on each bracket for the ram air covers. The ram air cover brackets are fastened to the the meter/fairing stay bracket too. The meter unit/fairing stay bracket also has grommets where the meter unit fastens to it.

I actually can't think of any stock rubber washer on the Gen1 ZX-14. Maybe it wasn't stock if it ever was a part of the bike.

The Vehicle Down Sensor also has grommets. Someone may have put rubber washers in there to tighten that up. The VDS sometimes made an annoying rattle on the Gen1 and some owners put in extra washers to snug the fit.

Hi Hub, Hi Rook.
Thanks for your help. The 92200 as you say are the little white nylon washer. I have all of them.
This washer is too large to be a fragment of a well washer.
See pics below. 19mm OD, 6mm ID, and 1.5mm thick.

There's not supposed to be anything like that in the top cowl. If somebody owned the bike before you, perhaps they dropped that in there by accident. From the first pic in your last reply, it looks like a razor knife was used to sliced it off of a larger piece. I wouldn't worry about it. Perhaps someone was trying to put extra cushioning in the meter unit mounting bolts? The meter unit is supposed to have a little slop in it but it has rubber grommets for cushioning.

Mystery Solved.
I have an MRA windshield with a modified Laminar Lip from a ZX12.
When I fitted the Laminar Lip I re-drilled two holes and then I put these black rubber washers either side of all 4 holes on the Lip to cushion it. When I removed the Lip one of the washers must have stuck to the outside of the MRA windshield and then fallen inside when I removed it. I did this mod quite a few years back and had totally forgot about the washers that I had used ( I'm practicing for when I retire)
As a side note, The MRA with a Laminar Lip is a great combo that works well for me.

I've noticed that this site has gone rather quiet so a big thanks to you and Hub for staying around to offer your advice and expertise to the likes of me
