Yosh Full Exhaust Question
08/10/09 12:58 PM

Hey guys, long time lurker here, finally registered so I could pick your collective brains a bit. I've had a Silver '08 for about a year now (love it, much more refined than the BMW K1200S I replaced with it). I just added a full Yoshimura R77 carbon can system and PC3 USB. I used the map that DynoJet had on their website, since they had one specifically for the R77 full system. It runs great, sounds great, and the power has been increased VERY noticeably. My only question is this: When decelerating, I get quite a bit of popping and fairly frequent backfire, especially if decelerating from higher RPMs. If I got a custom tune at a Dyno shop, would this go away or be lessened, or should I just shut up and accept it as part of my new (louder) exhaust?? Do most of you guys get this popping and backfire too? Thanks!!

SilverBullet:

If you do a search on the word "popping" using the search function on the top menu, you'll get several results. Take a look at the two threads returned in the search results. I think you'll find what you're looking for there.

Best way to rid yourself of the popping is to put block off plates on the top of the valve cover emissions air intakes. They can be bought at http://www.schnitzracing.com/ I believe.

Just an update, after reading other posts on this topic, I called Brock's Performance, and they sold me one of their red caps to cap off the line to the airbox for $5.00 plus S/H. Ordered it Monday, on my doorstep today. That's fast. I'll report the result when I get it installed, hopefully tonight. Thanks again!

I used a nuetral tre to stop the popping...worked VERY well A GiPro isn't cheap, but itll get rid of the popping and give you a gear indicator. Or you can get a nuetral tre from Ivans performance (which is what I did), its a cheaper option but you'll always have an N in your gear indicator.
And welcome

I hit search and came back with two guys going at it...

Stock rider: "Did he just answer his own question?"

DuaLifter: 'You talk'inn to me?"

Stocker: "Anyone else in the room?"

DL: 'Yeah well, I lift on the throttle more than throttle up.'

Stocker: "You have a perfect bike is you said it pulls on the cable rip-right?"

DL: 'Rip ripe inn you are is who asked you?'

Stocker: "I'm just asking if you answered your own question go searching for nothing."

DL: 'Hey, Kiss off, buddy!'

Stocker: "Kiss WOT?' I told you once you get down to here, I cannot return your minutes... Dis post when nowhere."

I have the airbox plug and have the Muzzy Reed blocks as well and my bike
pops anytime I want it too.
Read what BIB said- all put well or just try to avoid 3,500 rpm on decel... easy enough.

....So the verdict is in. You guys are right, it did not eliminate the popping, but it did definitely reduce it to the point that I can tolerate it. I'd say it was $5.00 well spent. Maybe down the road I'll do the TRE or Gi-Pro, but for now, I'm all smiles.

You need to get rid of your Reed valve too!

i just got the full system r-77 from yosh and it says in the instructions to rotate the axle, now i haven't gotten to installing it yet, but how the heck does not doing this cause injury, i can't see how this will affect anything

You have to reverse the axle to swap the axle nut to the left side of the bike, becuase the yoshi fits so close to the bike that when you hit a big enough bump, the suspension will compress enough that the axle nut could actually hit the exhaust can. I had to do the same thing with the yoshi full system on my busa.

Damn That sucks. Didn't even think that you can turn the axle around just like that

Don't sweat it flyer..I actually like the nut on the left hand side, I can get to the axle nut and not have to worry about slipping with a wrench and accidentally banging up my shiny exhaust And the switch is as easy as taking out the axle, switching the blocks over, and sliding it in the other way. Don't loosen up your chain adjusters, as long as they're tight you won't have to re-adjust your chain. Just support the bike and back tire so you can pull the axle and blocks out and reverse them....it really is very easy

One thing I noticed really quick visually was that my swingarm spool on the right hand side looked like it stood a very good chance of hitting the exhaust too (definitely before the axle bolt would). So, I took the swinarm spools off, which really kinda sucks, but I guess i can just put them on when I'm lubing the chain or changing tires.

You guys are right...the spools WILL hit your exhaust if you're a bigger guy, or carry a passenger and hit a big bump. On the 14 don't leave the spools on, just stick them on when you need them

yup ur right, i had a buddy of mine who's bigger sit on it with the spools on, and had him jump up and down a bit and yea those things actually come closer to the can than that axle would've, i can only imagine if u hit a good enough size bump on the highway
