Best sounding exhaust?
03/31/16 10:25 AM

I bought my new zx14 SE two weeks ago and want upgrade my exhaust. I have been watching videos, But I am having a great deal of difficulty trying to pick out the best sounding without paying a fortune on pipes or slip ons.

2016 Ninja zx 14 SE shorty pipes, changed that stupid white parking lights to amber, and lowered to a better stance.

A black Alienhead would be nice if you are looking for loud pipes. I always loved the look of M4 slipons and they are very lightweight--loud but not as loud as an A-head.

check the price of slipons v a full system. Go with a full system unless you know you're happy with slipons for sure.

I love my alienhead system. I was a little worried that it would be obnoxiously loud, but it's not nearly as bad as I expected. I ride with earplugs most of the time anyway.

But yeah, there are definitely quieter systems out there.

I really like my M4 slip ons on my 2010. I put a header on my bike off of a 2012 so I don't have the cat in the head pipe anymore and bigger primaries. Its nice and deep down low in the RPMs and gets really loud up high. I'm pretty sure you can't get the M4s new anymore but there are a few used sets around. I picked up my header and slip ons for $150 on Craigslist in close to mint condition.

2010 Candy Persimmon Red, PC5 w/switch, flies out, BMC filter, Brock's clutch springs, OSR cut pan, PSR links & kick stand, Roaring Toyz extensions - 6.5" over, black stainless lines, ZG double bubble, 2012 header with m4 slip ons all ceramic coated, paint protected by Ceramic Pro. Second fan, liquid performance coolant.

Yosh's R77 sound incredible. Nice tonal qualities, guttural lows and God' trumpets highs.

I like the sound of my Two Brothers slip-ons. They were a little too loud so I added the sound suppressor tips.

I'm with Vic, Yosh R77. Had mine for a couple of years now and couldn't be happier!!!

Think about your budget, look at some pics, and then decide. Good slip on's make almost as much power as a full system with a LOT less cost.

Good luck!

I have the Brocks CT dual full system; it sounds great and I love it

But.........it set me back $2,295 plus tax three years ago......., had I looked into the stock exhaust a little further before I bought a full system, I would've realized there is no catalytic converter before the muffler and your sole restriction is in the muffler itself ( there must be somewhat of a catalytic converter in the mufflers) ......so for the best bang for the buck, I would get a pair of Brocks slip on's and save well over $1000 and you will have almost as good of flow and roaring sound

Sure, an aftermarket header is A bit lighter weight and it is going to be larger diameter, but IMO, not enough to make that much of a difference to warrant the extra cost

Slip ons is the way to go and spend the extra money on something else

I love my Delkevic. I opted for 18" SUS. I originally installed Muzzy slip on but it was way too loud. Delkevic comes with quiet inserts and sounds great with or without. Even without, it is not too loud. For $350 brand new, it was the cheapest. In California, it is illegal to modify exhaust and after-market exhaust could mean "fix-it" ticket. So I didn't want to spend $$$.

Hands down its the Brocks cd duals. BUT - you do pay for the experience.

I haven't heard a ct single in person. if its close in sound quality - get that instead. It saves a good bit of money, unless you have to have the dual look.

I almost went with two brothers carbon slips, but the insurance company was footing the bill for the exhaust. So I let them pay. lol.

Agreed on the CT Duals. I had the CT Meg on my '13, and put the duals on my '16 SE. They give the bike a much more imposing look, and the sheer depth/volume of sound is indescribable. The whole house shakes when this bitch is idling in the garage. Also makes incredible power gains.

EDIT: also, keep in mind the '16+ models do have cats in the header pipe.

Yes welders are artists.
I've heard that they are making some of there own exhaust lines now.
I have also heard that Hindle made their exhaust for them.

Answer to this question is always subjective. My first ZX14 (2006) had a Brocks full system. My second ZX14R (2012) had a Brocks alien head. My current and newly acquired ZX14R (2012) has a full Akra 4/1 system. I will always promote Brocks for performance but the alien head is a bit too rowdy for me now that I am eight years older. The Akra system which was on the bike when I bought it has superb quality and great performance with a great sound at full tilt.
