Woolich ECU tune - whats your thoughts ?
04/04/19 1:13 AM

Hi everyone, new to the forum.
Have anyone here done a Woolich ECU tune on there 2008 ZX14, and what was the result?
I was thinking of going the PCV way, until the tuner I went too told me about this Woolich racing tune. Apparently it will flash straight to the ECU with no piggy back system like PCV.
Appreciate any thoughts on this. Thanks.

I had my ECU reflashed by Ivan's Performance Products and I am running an after market full Akrapovic, twin muffler exhaust, no PCV. I'm very happy with the tune without the PCV. I'm not going to modify the engine so I'm happy with the results and lack of factory restrictions on my ECU. I'm not sure how Woolich works, looks like they sell the tuning equipment with the tune software for the bike. I sent my ECU to Ivan, he reflashed it, and then sent it back to me. Cost was $350 + Shipping. I bought the Akrapovic exhaust system from him at a good discount from what is available on the WEB at other suppliers.

You might look into 2wheel dynoworks. They even have a sale going on right now. GL

Check out the sticky thread ECU Flash 2Wheel Dynoworks.
Nels helped me build my 06 to 183hp with his flash, pair block offs and Hindle full exhaust. My dyno sheets are posted in that thread He has flashes for a lot of configurations. Changes when the flies open which really wakes the bike up. If you do the pair block offs he will optimize the map for it. And with the Hindle single exhaust the bike is 30 pounds lighter too.

Thanks for your reply guys.
One more question - How do they tune the AFR if the bike has no O2 sensor?
I have a 2008 with twin TRC Yoshi slip ons. I bought the bike secondhand with the pipes already fitted, and I noticed there is no O2 sensor.
Can the ECU be tuned effectively on a dyno with no sensor, and what will the result be ?

Thanks again.......

If that question is in reference to a flash, the tune would have been done on another Gen1 ZX-14 and they will just flash the improved fuel numbers to your ECU fuel table....or they will give you the fuel mao which you will need to load to a PC5.

If you are asking about a custom dyno tune, I have seen tuners use a sniffer O2 sensor instead of an O2 sensor installed to a bung on the pipe. they slide the sniffer down the muffler and it picks up the exhaust samples like a permanently installed O2 sensor would.

Might want to check out Brock's. A well known tuner with a good rep.

I have his slip on on my 18 ZX 14R and it is killer

A custom dyno tune with a woolich setup should be about the best option available. No extra wiring, grounds and parts to go wrong, the custom tune should give better performance than any flash as its made for your specific bike, in conditions near where you ride. A flash from anyone is a generic tool, made on a different, but similar bike. A pc5 will allow for fine tuning your a/f ratio, but it won't allow the secondary butterflies to be adjusted, or an extended red line which most flashes and the woolich setup will do.
