Lifting front end for fork maintenance
08/13/18 11:45 AM

This weekend I am going to replace fork seals. I have searched and searched for a nice way to lift up the front end to allow me to do this job. Can someone please point me in the direction to get the correct type of jack/lifting device/stand. Whatever is the correct way. I don't mind spending the money, I want to buy the correct tool, the first time.

Thanks

You would do well getting a pivot stand.A Heindle or something similar to get both wheels off the ground.A floor jack to slide under the piping and gently lift the front up.Loosen all axle bolts and such FIRST.While it's off the stand. Then raise it.And remove front wheel.

Or use the Redneck Lift system

2 ladders
1 4x4
2 ratchet straps

Apologies in advance to bumpfire

"Abba stand" for when you get tired of messing around with stands, jacks and ceiling hooks.

Thanks for all of the great advice. . Im going to go with an abba stand, im just trying to decide on the front/rear package or the sky lift.

Now although the redneck lifting method sounds entertaining....I just cant see myself doing that.

From another forum user.

Abba Skylift looks pretty cool. I asked him around how many pumps
on the hydraulics to get the bike lifted, he said wasn't bad.

I was thinking if I every got one to convert it to a air powered
hydraulic pump.

Stands run around 300 +/-, lift around 600 +/-

You can get a Pit Bull triple tree stand. It uses a pin that goes up into the bottom of the triple tree.
I found out it will work when the guy that did my front suspension used one. Many hit the fairing so can't be used but the Pit Bull clears it. You need a #14 pin. I have the stand that lifts from the bottom of the forks right now.
I found that when I remove the wheel the stand flexes a bit and that makes it almost impossible to get the front wheel back on.
