Black Smoke?
08/11/09 8:20 PM

I was out on a ride the other day and from 40MPH in third, I got on it pretty good. Shifting to fourth and fifth at about 8 grand. Never made sixth...man you run out of road fast! When we get to our destination, my friend tells me that when I was getting on it, I was blowing some black smoke for a couple of seconds. He said it was like I was running rich for a bit. Has this happened to anyone else? What might be the cause and any possible remedies?

I really can't say what he means by "some" black smoke as my riding poisition does not give me a view of the exhaust. I'm guessing that it was enough that he could see it at speed. He said it does not do it while just cruising along.

Maybe you blew the carbon out of it? Mine runs better after a romp or two.

Black smoke is almost always a sign your fuel/air is too rich.

I get into 6th fairly often. Its great on 70 mph highways and some of the better (with less accesses) backroads I run to get to the twisties. Just easily rolling along at 70-80 mph not even on the pipes. :)

Sounds like a little carbon - I've never seen mine do that, but then I've been too busy watching what's commin at me too fast to bother lookin - when I go ridin with my son on his ZRX 1200 he always claims he's too busy watchin my front wheel commin off the ground to notice anything else.
Back in the days at the bike shop when customers would bring in a Jap multi cyl. claiming they were running crummy, we'd take them out for a 10 min. "test ride" run them up to red line a few time to blow the carbon out, give them back and listen to the owners amazement at how great their bikes were runnin. This procedure was called the Polish Tune Up.
Modern multi cylinder high performance motorcycle engines were designed like formula 1 motors, not old Buick station wagons, and responed as such.

Washed and re-oiled the dirty air filter...no more black smoke on acceleration.

Do we have a PC on board, red? Could be the, 'Polish Connection?' Because, an A/C not cleaned; one blows white smoke according to a lot of, gasluggishesitationess.

You're blowing out a black smoked sausage, say, I sure could go for a weenear key bob sandwich and a dark beerightoe bout now.

Hi Hub, No PC on mine. I just followed the advice of Bad and the service manual. Both said that a blockage in the air system will cause the black smoke. I also checked the air ducts to make sure nothing started nesting in there.

Thanks, red. Just trying to trip you/me up finding that fine line before white turns black. For anyone who wants to follow the computer diagnosing/tuning...

You are at WOT. What that tells you/me is one signal happening, like the tre ~ Think. Now you think, lowest volt number, the richer the set >> is WOT stopped at the throttle stop <<< Being the volt in 10th's now is one number in the opposite transition > Get it?. Set to full range of the TPS is the 4 to 5v range are the opposite effectssay, is the ECU final fuel feed.

Puff-Puff, out goes the [richest set stuck at WOT you see is] smoke at the single tre volt signal set locked as one feed as in a WOT feed = Same-Same. Fine line knowing just a dirty air cleaner returned the bike back to running like a fridge.

Cool to know... Now, if I could just brain freeze that to my memory for a diagnostic/tune your ass is UP, she is good to go.

Ah, Kruz with a (((Hesitation))) ~ Red with Smoke "Inn The Other Guy's Eyes" = Air Cleaner Variable Look&Sea are the variables to that dirty A/C.

That tells me to check that element out before I head for the dealer and they find the fridge door was closed, it was that simple in the 20/20. Tell me you do not like that computer bike being that simple a bike now. You have no idea how simple the computer bike is to understand.

Bulletproof piece of shit preset.
