They used to crush factory racebikes to prevent them from ever being run again since the calculated service cycles for many of the parts (frames, especially) had been exceeded. Now, most are offered to the racers for their trophy rooms or to various museums.
After Dick O'Brien retired, the bean counters at Harley-Davidson crushed all the leftover racing frames and motors for a tax deduction even though most of those were new spares. One whole XRTT was spirited out of the factory by a mechanic and later assembled. There could have been a dozen out there vintage racing or in the hands of loving collectors.

That's crap, why at least didn't useable parts go to a boneyard instead of just wasting everything?
I was thinking that as well. Lots of bikes could've used the bodywork or something, parts that aren't running gear. I'm sure most of it's bean counters, but to be fair to bean counters the reality is they would get sued over parts failures. As stupid as it seems, someone buys the fairings, has an accident and catches their leg on the fairing causing injury. Their lawyer finds out this was a sample part... let the stupidity begin.
Just not worth the chance I guess especially considering they'd have to remove the parts to sell them. All manufacturers do this, cars too. Ignoring scale it's really no different than throwing away a engineering samples for a bolt.

I guess I'm the contrarian. Since there was a legit reason to crush it, i.e. not just some scorned woman attacking her cheatin' man's prefect ZX ... that looked like FUN to me! Massive iron machinery crushing things! But then I have a tractor and love dominating things with it!

Extrap I guess one way to look at it those beauties get sacrificed so we can have ours. Agreed, crushing things like that is definitely fun. But I'd have a hard time doing it to something as awesome as a sportbike. Line me up a bunch of family sedans and mini vans I'd go to town!
