Serious gearbox issues
07/18/16 11:17 PM

Hi guys,

since a few days I have some serios gearbox issues, which means I'm stuck in gear 5 & 6.
No Neutral and no other gear is possible.
I wonder if I have to take off the engine to get it managed or if I can leave everything in and only take the gearbox out?
Can you give me a little advice?
Thanks :)

By hand or foot, engine off, clutch out, start to shift down to N via static movement to the shift lever, you bump the bike fore and aft as the rear wheel will line up the gears and you can shift this way with wheel movement or it sticks.
No joy? Seems like the shift arm behind the clutch basket might have to be looked at and start from there.

Having the key off will eliminate the GPS from electrically binding the shifting... Hacks me how I know?

If you can't get it to free up, before you drop the motor, pull the clutch basket and look at the shift linkage mechanism. May be bent or hung up somewhere. If you do have to get into the gearbox you have to split the cases.

Till now I did a quick strip of the bike, gonna pull the clutch tomorrow.
On the left hand side of the bike everything seems to be fine...

To pull the clutch was totally the best thing

You better watch it in fullscreen mode ;-)

Wow -any idea what might have caused that? Have you been hammering the shifts without the clutch or something?

Haven't opened this morning yet,but that vid showing the star..that's looks VERY possible. It's missing one of the pegs, yes?Hope that's all it is.It's an EVO shift star in there on mine...maybe it broke like that vid?And also I HAVE shifted a lot without clutching.Gonna stop doing that.In fact, just before this was noticed by me riding,I had passd a cage and upshifted as I went by without clutching.I remember it did NOT want to upshift, although it did.Using the throttle to lightly back off the load..which is how I always do it.Probably need to quit that.

"Wow -any idea what might have caused that? Have you been hammering the shifts without the clutch or something?"...yeah,sometimes.But it usually shifts good upshifting and just using throttle to reduce load at the shift time.Maybe just one too many of those!I think so...the vid is a great example of how it feels when trying to gear it.Yep.I can picture the feel with the video.

If you your shift pedal is moving full throw but you feel no resistance, that could be it.

Out comes the whole clutch.

Okay...so I looked in there. It's the spring on the shiftchange mechanism. That small almost straight one that crosses the tips of the fork.WTH?
