G,day

and does it put alot pressure on your wrist.
IMO at 5'7" no but thinking back when I first started to ride my 04CBR1100xx It did for a while till I got use to it, & my 6' mate Goody mentioned his wrists were aching riding my ZX14 a bit! but since my Genmar bar risers are on plus the 1" drop footpegs he feels a lot more comfortable riding her now
as a sport touring
Really great IMO it's far more Linear than my 04CBR1100xx was plus my wife feels it's more comfortable than the B/B was too!I know it's got heaps more Adjustments for the front & rear compared with my 04CBR1100xx & it IS the natural replacement from my Sports Touring 04 CBR1100xx as the only similar bike would be IMO the

thanks mate

to install the bar riser's do ypu have to replace the some of the cables or is it a pretty easy job to install.

also little funny because when i bought the yamaha i traded in a ninje 250 which was alot of fun also and a year newer 2010.
but they where giving some bikes away last year so i jumped on the deal. so i would be going back to kaw again.

The Genmar and Heli lift blocks don't make you replace your hoses/cables.

The LSL handlebar conversion requires a new front brake hose, +3", provided in the kit.

Does it put pressure on your wrists? Compared to what? Compared to a C14 or K-1600, yes, a lot.

If we ride together to Tail of the Dragon, me on my C14, you on your stock ZX14, at the end of the 10+ hour ride, you are going to be in a world of hurt. I am not.

For what they do, they are comfortable enough. The 2010 has wider (left to right spacing) handgrips to a) help low speed maneuvering, and b) make it a tad more comfortable.

No it only took 10 minutes Mark43 to fit them mate it was one really easy job + also I like the Genmars because they also give you the caps aswell

"how is the bike as a sport touring and does it put alot pressure on your wrist".First off... ...secondly....any sportbike is gonna affect your wrists IF your body happens to be 'affected' by the ergonomics of it.No one can really tell you..."ya...your wrists are gonna hurt"....no one.Only YOU will find that out.And there are some mods for the 14 that will lessen or eliminate any wrist pain.Too many variables to say yes or no.Something as simple as turning the grip unit can completely stop wrist pain.It just depends on YOUR particular body design.Plus...throw in the use of your arms and such, and how you steer your bikes...that can make a big difference as well.Resting on the bars with your upper body....gonna strain your wrists.Sitting midseat, and relaxing, gonna be good for your wrists.Who knows. You'll find out.Get the 14!

Grn14, if you ride 10-11 hours in one day, stopping only for gas (e.g., Iron Butt 1,000) your wrists and arms are going to be very tired and possibly ache / hurt.

No way around it in that seating position.

If you are young and skinny, it will be less than it would be for someone older and/or heavier.

So you are right, it varies from rider to rider keeping the bike constant.

And still, at the end of that 10-11 hour, 1000+ miles, day, I will be fresher on my C14 than you will be on your ZX14.

And I'll be able to stay a week and see the sights.

Be glad to put that to the test soon as my C14 gets here and gets broken in.

I've got trips planned in 2012 already to Rhode Island, Deals Gap, Daytona, possibly (depends on funds) North Dakota.

All of them are way past 8 hour days except Rhode Island, I think I can do that in 8 hours, flying nap of the earth.

You could buy my ZX14, the works all done, it is a very competent sport touring machine with luggage, GPS, the works.

In the FOR SALE section under the heading 2008 ZX14 For Sale, or something.

privateer if you sell what will you be riding ?

rained on me a tiny bit today, only 2nd or 3rd time in has in all those miles, so not so bad.

im running on the michlin pilot 3 tires so they stick like glue, best tire i ever owned, but i have only rode on dunlop, irc or bridgestones street tires before.

looks like about a 8 to 10 thousands mile tire the way i ride, with about 4500 miles now they show about 1/2 wear if that

they did cup little after about 3000/3500 miles on the left side which is the way i turn in harder.

+1 On the road pilot 3 I need a new rear now that I have 8,000 miles on it and I will be getting the pilot 3 again because I love the way they ride down here in the land of straights!

I'm taking delivery of a 2012 (black) Concours 14 sometime in the next 4 to 5 weeks. I already signed the contract and either my ZX14 sells and I give them the cash or I trade it in.

The important thing is, the ZX14 will be out of my garage by year's end, so the question is, will someone benefit from the hundreds if not thousands of hours of fabrication and machining that went into making it a stellar sport touring machine.

I'd take 9k for it, which would get someone close to $20,000 worth of machine. Full GIVI side- and top-cases, with AdMore LED light kits in all. Full carbon fiber. Etc. etc. etc. If you pull this up beside a 2012 ZX14 that is stock, you'll be able to stay with it. Despite the hype, we know what Brock got from it, using race gas, so we know what it will do on pump gas.

I will be very happy if I end up trading it in, with Kawasaki $500 extra on trade-in, and dealer swears there will be a $2,000 deal on the Concours 14 by the time mine gets here, I'd actually lose money selling it.

But then, I'd be losing money selling it in any case, but at least somebody would be enjoying it the way I built it.

wow your sure did alot work on the bike, alot of extra stuff for sure.

yes the pilots are real nice, even when you corner on uneven and bumby roads they soak up the road nice and take away the chatter.

have one problem i like to have the latest and greatest stuff.

had one of the 1st r1 in 98 and get this i live in new york and i put the bike up for sale..... they were in big demand the first year.

and some guy calls me to buy the bike fron cali.....flys to my house in new york and stays the night. then 7:00 oclock on the morning i show him how to get to highway 188 and he drives the bike back to chino calforina in 3 days.... thats one for the record books !!

some of my mates would ride the bike for 15 mins and say there wrist was a little sore and this guy drives to califorina in 3 days. he was OLD school thats for sure.

then one day i was in barnes and noble and i did not have a bike at the time, i was looking over some mags and picked up a copy of road racing world and in there what do i find the guy that drove the bike to cali....... he raced the thing at willow springs race way and placed 3rd in the toyota seris. i guess he needed more then i did.. lol

also had the 1st gsx1000 forgot what the the 1st year was...... and of coarse how can i forget the 99 copper busa i had what awesome bike !!!

I understand completely. I used to feel the same way.

What I found out, and finally accepted, is if you keep waiting for the lastest and greatest, all you will get is disappointed. Because it won't long be the latest and greatest.

Take the 2012 ZX14. I like what they did with it. It is NOT revolutionary, it is a mere puff of engineering wind that they probably didn't even need to start new CAD drawings to do.

Six months from now, it will be old news.

And for me to buy a 2012 ZX14, and get it to where I could use it the way I want to ride, I'd have to spend another $12,000 to $15,000 in parts and untold hours, all over again.

Or I could just buy a 2012 Concours 14 ABS and spend $2,000 extra on it, and be ahead of the game.

If I was still worried about the latest and greatest, I'd keep my ZX14 one more season and wait for the 2013 Concours 14 (?) which may be quite different from the 2012.

But then, I'd miss a year with the Concours 14 ABS riding it, going places, having fun. And even a Concours 15 in 2013 wouldn't be all that much more fun or capable.

Naw, I've found the best fun is to pick something less costly than you'd like it be (I really want a K-1600 GTL but its $22,000 plus farkles, tax, and license) and then go have fun with it.

i hear you !

i figure the yama would bring about 4 grand on the trade oe sell and i would be looking at another 10 or so.

not cheap to have the lastest that's for sure..but you only live once.

might just do plugs, new sprockets and chain and tires in the spring and fill the tank for about 10 dollars..

lets see i would save about 9500.00

I have a buddy with a c-14 and we swap alot, because he wants to. Its like night and day powerwise. His feels like a mo-ped compared to the zx. My ZX is more comfortable than the c-14 on long trips because your back is stretched out, not compressed, like on the c-14. About 1 hour into the ride on a c-14 you start fidgiting around trying to relieve the back pain. No back pain on the zx. On the interstate at 80 there is no better mile eater than the zx. Turbulance doesn't bother you on the zx---way more aerodynamic than the c-14. I am 60 and I can ride the zx all day long. Best bike I have ever owned and I have had a bunch.

every ones different, age, build, aches and pains,I'm 59 after a 500 mile day I call it quits, grab a motel and quick shower then back on the bike looking for a palace to eat.If I had a bad day, traffic, construction etc,I'll still do 500 miles grab a motel a couple of beers and not go back out. Most I've ridden in one day was Suches GA to Toronto about 1400 km ,for me the 14 is a great one-up bike, tank bag, knapsack,a flask of Calvadose for a treat at the end of the day

I've ridden, in the past 6 months or so, my ZX14 of course, a CVO Ultra Electra Glide (2012), a BMW K-1600 GTL, a 2011 C14, and some various bikes I rode just because I could.

Never met a motorcycle I didn't like.

The C14 seating position is perfect for me. The stock seat is downright plush. I will be able to do 1,000 mile days on my 2012 C14 without breaking a sweat. I might finally get my IB 1k ! Missed it by 200 miles about 4 months ago.

I'm going to probably sell my 2010 C14 factory low gel seat, and use the money to get a Rick Mayer.. maybe.

what do you do !

make sure you think it over real good before you make that move on the c14.

you lose lot if you have to trade the bike back .

na just kidding that c14 will rock your world... but if it was me i who rally lay the hammer down at the red light and see who has what... for good rush and laugh !

but if i do decide i will wait until you can see the colors in person... hard to judge from a picture you have to see the bike in person to really tell what you like the best.

like the blue so far, not sure want to clean a black bike but they look the best when clean.

hopefully they won't sell out.... but at that price i don't think so... im in ny so no need to look at it until late feb early march.

my cut off point is about 42 degrees.... shit i almost stabil the fuel today but next week couple days at 42 and on thurs 47..... not over yet but getting real close.

99 jimmy a tank to drive... the bike so faster to get around on. 13 mpg/ 47 mpg

Hi All, I am a new member here and I have had severe wrist issues for the past ten years riding. I have been riding now for 39 years. I am 58 years old, 5' 10" 160 pounds and I work out three times a week. I have owned two goldwings both a 1500 and an 1800. Just a bit of background info. I have to respectfully make a few 'old guy' comments. I bought a new C-14 in February of 2010. The remake of the 08's and 09's. After one season I had to sell it because there was nothing I could add-on to make it ergonomically comfortable and drivable for me. I put on bar risers, a taller windshield, a throttlemeister, a Utopia backrest, and a custom Sargent seat twice. None of it helped. I finally had to sell it and go back to my touring bike of choice, a Yamaha RSV. But I missed the rush of the power the Connie gave me. I have to say that before I bought the Connie my first inclination was to purchase a zx14. But I gave in and bought the C-14. I regret buying it for my own personal reasons, not because it is a bad bike. However, I am now buying a nearly new 2009zx14 and I do believe as Scottfarm said in his post that the zx for me for whatever reason will be a more comfortable riding platform. I guess everything being subjective, time will tell.
Respectfully and with no intention of bashing another persons ride of choice.
Chris
