Blast from the Past
12/25/20 12:21 PM

So I never really reported about our trip to Crater Lake Oregon v Kim, my wife, rode with me on the KNGKAWI and my son rode his 1991 CBR600F2 with almost 100k miles on it. R
First day we rode through Napa wine country and out to Get 101. We stopped for the night in Leggett. Next morning we traveled through the famous Avenue of the Giants to Eureka where we turned East on Hwy 299. Then North on Hwy 3 out to the town of Weed in the shadow of Mt Shasta. Next morning we continued to head East out to Klamath Falls where we turned North.

We got to Crater Lake around 11 am. We decided to try to get a room at the Crater Lake Lodge which sits right on the Crater rim. Usually rooms are $400 a night but they found us one for $199. We booked 2 nights. You can have your meals on the outside balcony that has a beautiful view of the lake. Stunning.
So the next day we decided to ride around the lake. Far side was still snowed in so we were just going to go as far as we could.

Well, after stopping for a picture, my bike decided to kill it's battery. I made my son push me back and forth in the parking lot to try to bump start it but no go. So I ended up calling AAA for a tow back to the hotel. I stole my son's bike and hauled ass down to Klamath Falls for a battery. Got there just before they closed. Scooted back and installed it using the factory tool kit in the parking lot.
Next day we headed home. Went out Hwy 162 to the coast and spent the night in Fort Bragg. Retraced our steps back through Calistoga and Napa in a steady rain and fog.
It was a fantastic trip. My son still talks about it.
