long story , 7 bunches of keys got stolen, got 4 back, except bike and old car,
can i (i think i can) have ecu code erased and new one installed, code for immobiliser? as i know the scum who have the keys and ifg they ever get the oppurtunity they will try take the bike,
no, i cant take on the gypsy nation on my own, and the police will not be invloved
so, soloutions, without buying a new ECU, i can get new keys cut and coded, but can i get a new different code on same ecu??

i can get keys cut to suit all locks, and the keys programmed with code for immobiliser,
but , as thieving scum still have keys, can i have the immobiliser code changed, so their keys will not work,
loop around ignition is recognised by ecu
some ecu use a rolling code, so code cant be copied

Stolen Bikes, stolen keys...This all gives me nightmares. I have a scorpion alarm, and the fob is coded so that you can switch and replace the immob function. Not sure about keys and immob? You got a key code with the new keys, I'd take it to the dealer and find out. Crappy, news!

Dealer and manual say new ECU, screw that

The non north american bikes have an immobilizer. The ecu and key have an RFID code that must match. If you still have your spare key, your should and can be able to invalidate the lost key. As per the service manual says sitting in front of me. If you have no spare key then you need a new ecu because a currently registered key is required to program a new key to the ecu.

In short, if you still have your spare key then you will need to have your dealer invalidate the lost key! Don't let them tell you otherwise. The dude with your key won't be able to start the bike, but he can still remove your seat. You may have to go to a different dealership if yours can't do it.

nop, no spare key, had visitors, they took all keys,
there are independent guys who can take code from ecu and match a code to a key,
didnt know they could invalidate the lost keys, good to know, thanks, and yes its a euro model, so has ignition immobiliser

So, if i was to find a north american ECU on ebay, then send it to Romans for a flash, it shoud work in my bike as it is not equipped with an immobiliser????

Hard to say. The radio immobileizer is tied directly in to the ignition and fuel system. Is it tied in piggyback style like how a PC ties into the system? If so then yes you can simply remove the immobileizer system out of the way. But that senecio is very unlikely, it would make it virtually worthless wired in like that as it would be easy for an average professional to bypass. No, that immobileizer is hard wired directly into the fuel and ignition system. There is no way to bypass the immobileizer, the immobileizer needs that conformation code directly from the ecu to activate the system. The service manual is vague on how exactly it is wired in, but my guess is you would have to install a whole new main wiring harness in the bike to bypass the immobileizer to make a US ecu work. I am just speculating here, without actually getting hands on with it I can't give you a definitive answer. I could be wrong but I don't think you can just simply install a US ecu plug and play style like you want. If it weren't for that immobileizer it would work just fine. Yet again there maybe a way to bypass it but I highly doubt Kawi made it simple to do.

Yes, I kinda thought it would not be that simple, I had a look at loom as i was going to take off triple clamp and drill out the shear off bolts underside ignition housing, and yes I think the immobiliser is wired to injectors ,

They crack you brain box open to perform a lobotomy and program a new set of keys for a fraction of the price for a new ecu and ignition.....hmmmm they do offer a one year warranty which makes me a little more comfortable about it. So basically I would ask them the specifics on the warranty first and go from there. Also make sure they can invalidate the stolen keys! If their warranty is on the ecu that it won't and will not fail in any way shape or form and if it by chance within that one year period to take a shit on you and they are offering replace the thing with no questions asked then I'd totally go for it.

Hi Nasty,
Just wanted to thank you as the information you posted last year helped save me a heap of money just recently.

A sneak thief got into our home and stole a wallet and two sets of keys.

One was for my ZX14 (2010)

Turns out my insurance covers lost/stolen key to value of $1000 with no excess (deductible).

I still have one black key and the red one, good news so far.

1st Kawasaki dealer quotes $3000 for new ECU, Barrel, Keys etc.

2nd Kawasaki dealer says same thing and we have discussion about getting 2nd hand ECU etc maybe reducing price to around $1000.

I then found the post on this website and prompted 3rd Kawasaki dealer that it was possible to de-authorise the stolen key.

They booked it in and after the whole day rang me and told me it was not possible.

I told them that I was positive it could be done and I was going to research it some more and find out how.

Hey presto 20 min's later they had checked with Kawasaki and been given procedure to get it done.

OEM Key $68.00
Key cutting $10.00
Labour $30.00

Not having to spend $3000.00 getting a new ECU etc .... PRICELESS

I had to prove ownership to get the new OEM key ... no drama there.

Don't get fooled by dealers that simply don't know how to do it ..... insist they find out.

I'm now gonna check to insure I have a "golden" spare key, with RFID.

Do we dare ask for the instructions, and post them here? Maybe not, since it seems wise to prove ownership before granting the re-key, and / or key invalidate.

I'm assuming the procedure worked for your dealer, Din. It did, Right?
