Center stand with Muzzy's ?
06/19/14 10:54 AM

Sorry for yet another center stand thread ... but I can't tell if the $205 OEM center stand sold on eBay will work with my Muzzy dual slip ons? Here's a pic so you can see which slip ons I have (not the shorty) ... Thanks guys.

I have Scorpion slip-ons and they work just fine with the factory C-stand, They even came with a bumper bracket on the right midpipe to correspond with the bumper bracket on the stand.

Weight of the Kawasaki center stand I just received ... including kg for our non-US friends:

Center stand bar unit alone = 2 lbs 13.2 oz (1.28 kg)

Grip handle = 9.5 oz (0.269 kg) i.e. over 1/2 pound! Do you really need that??

Complete center stand kit (stand, grip handle and all hardware; 20 pcs total) = 4 lbs 6.6 oz (2.00 kg)

Not wanting to insult anyone's intelligence.... I had one on my 07. There's a bit of a knack to getting any bike on the center stand. Get the bike centered with the stand down, and let it sit there. It won't go anywhere as long as you have a tiny bit of weight on the stand. The next bit is the trick that I see so many people, especially new riders struggle with even on a 250. You're really not trying to LIFT the bike onto the stand. You REALLY have to put most of your weight on the foot part of the stand (really stand on it with your heel), then it's just a firm rocking tug up and back. Think about the leverage on a race stand. On these, that can be done by grabbing the passenger rearset if you don't have or want the handle on. When it falls into place, it's just so easy. Anyway, I hope this helps just 1 person.
Maybe I'll get crucified for stating the obvious, but I really do see a lot of people struggle getting big bikes up.

We have center stand success! (easy to get it up on the stand: Left hand on left handlebar grip, right foot on the foot lever, reach right hand under passenger foot peg, and in one swift motion transfer all weight onto right foot and lift with right hand)

My VF1000F had a center stand before I removed it after a while. I used a technique I'm surprised more people don't employee...in fact I've never seen it recommended anywhere.

Here goes trying to describe it. As you know, you try to rock the bike onto the center stand. Part of this is putting most of the weight of your foot on the stands foot pad and pushing down. Where my technique is different is employing the front brake. Rock the bike, it goes up so far, front brake lock. Rock back again, bike goes further on the stand, lock front brake. Rock bike again, if it's like my VF1000 (also a near 600 lb bike) it should go up onto the stand the last time. Basically instead of trying to rock it all in one motion, this breaks it into 3 steps. Very simple to do and a lot easier than trying to push/pull the bike onto the stand.
