Side Fairing Mesh Screens
09/14/10 4:49 PM

I would like to know how to install mesh screens on the side fairings and lower fairing. I have seen a few members with them, like NINJARYDER, btw very nice 14. I would also like to do my own radiator screen the same as the fairing screens. So, if anyone has, or knows where to get this how-to, please post it up.

Thanks,
BearsZX72

scottjkyl, sorry for the delay. Thanks for the information and the link. I checked e-bay and I only found the chrome mesh screens. I'm going to call them to see if they can custom paint or send me bare ones. Once again, THANKS!

Howdy Wookster!

Just imagine Wooki comin at ya on his 14 Blastin HID's....star wars fer sure!!!

Why not buy a couple of sets of those silver mesh grilling screens...the lightweight ones...then just cut to size and paint if ya want...and epoxy in?It's the same material.Scouts Honor.Probably WAY cheaper.

You wouldn't have any problem lining up the mesh pattern...Voila!(won't need to worry about shipping times either!!!!)

Thanks for the ideas, everyone. I was at my local home improvement store over the weekend and found mesh screens there. I was thinking about buying a sheet and cutting and forming them my self. Has anyone done this? It will be much cheaper then buying and having them shipped out.

I would do them myself bearsZX72 WHEN I can move around with out my crutches they'd be easy me being a boilermaker fer 30 yrs can tell you with clamps an 2 bits of MDF 12mm thick to sandwich the mesh with the part u need to bend being folded with a gentle soft mallet as your press !

I thought about using epoxy but I decided to simply use silicon sealant to mount mine. Figured it would be easier to remove if I ever wanted to. Been on my bike several years now without problem.

I pulled mine from one of those C/F ghetto hoods on a Honda Accord in a junk yard
and then used JB Weld to hold them in after I cut them to fit.
Pics are in the photo forum.

Just an idea. I recently put a new splitter on my car and was looking for something inexpensive to use for the mesh. I went to Home Depot (Any big box prolly have it) and found galvanized gutter mesh. It's metal so you can bend it to shape and it only costs under $2 and piece so if you mess it up just grab another. It measures about 3 foot long and maybe 9-10 inches wide and comes with a curve to it so it fits in eaves troughs but you can easily flatten it. Just paint it to taste or leave it and affix with your favorite bonding agent. I fiberglassed mine in but that was on a big car spoiler and made a mess of the back side which didn't matter on by the ground on a car.

I was thinking about them but I have framesliders so I don't want to make it a big deal with taking the side off and plus I can't stand thing raddling...

Hey Black1, I have frame sliders on mine too and you don't have to take the sides off. Get some wire cutters or some snips and cut out a circle in the mesh so the slider can fit through.

Here's a pic of mine. I'll take some better ones and post tomorrow.

I got my mesh installed. It was pretty easy, the aluminum grate came in a square piece shrink wrapped to cardboard, and it cuts with shears easy.

I just cut it diagonal to make two triangles, and worked the triangles with the shear until it was just big enough to cover and overlap a small amount. Then I bent the overlaps down, and took it off and painted it semi-gloss black, and put them back on "permanently" with silicone adhesive.

I'll update this with a side picture, but it isn't something we haven't seen already.
