Hey guys, just picked up a 2016 zx14r special edition. I'm about to do the first chain sag adjustment and wanted to know the sag should be while on the center stand.

thafull, this is bike sitting static upright, no one on seat, not on center stand:
32 ~ 38mm (1.3 - 1.5 in.)
These numbers are for stretch so; use a rubber hammer jammed under the swingarm and lower rung of the chain. If you have a high spot, that might take a few measurements at a few more positions. Use the lower links for pin wear. It is much easier than popping off that chain guard. I'd say, jam a round screwdriver shaft between tooth and link, but you'd have to hold it while measuring or it rocks back, etc. Here is the count from outside pin to outside pin we count off 20 links. This has to be within spec or out of spec. Change all 3 drive components if out of spec:
20-link length wear - 317.5 ~ 318.2mm (12.50-12.53 in.) Chain is junk @ 323mm (12.7 in.) or pop goes a pin or weakest link.

I wouldn't try measuring your chain slack unless the bike was sitting on both wheels. Supported under the frame as a center stand will do, the swingarm is all the way open and chain is at max loose. That's why Hub is telling you to jack up the swing arm with a rubber mallet or something. How long of a mallet do you use though? If you jack the rear wheel high enough to equal the weight of the bike on the rear suspension, don't you risk tipping the bike over? Have someone hold the bike upright while you measure. Lifting just the rear on a spool stand seems to make the chain a bit tighter than both wheels on the floor.
If you are measuring chain stretch, hang the proper amount of weight on the chain with both wheels on the floor just like measuring chain slack.
If you have to use your center stand for either of these, it's up to you to find out what equates to the bike with both wheels on the floor. Unless someone else does these measurements with a centewr stand and can tell you what they should be...which I guess is what you were asking for.
If you trust someone to hold the hand grips while you measure, you could lean the bar end against a wall so the bike is standing at 90°. that should give you very much the same swing arm angle as standing on a side stand.

If you ride two-up, or loaded with luggage,m you're gonna want to dial in a little more slack.

Is the Hubster off today or is my service manual wrong??
"thafull, this is bike sitting static upright, no one on seat, not on center stand:
32 ~ 38mm (1.3 - 1.5 in.)"
My service manual spec is 25-30mm (1.0 - 1.2 in.) Is this correct or is the Hubspec the tribal knowledge of our professor emeritus a better setting?

Gen1 = 32 ~ 38mm (1.3 - 1.5 in.)
Gen2 = 25-30mm (1.0 - 1.2 in.)
Where I pulled the gen1 manual and didn't think, 'hi, just bought an R' and was thinking of that used bike thread with the stretched model, the silver used, and then the low miler comes along. Maybe it was that, maybe it was senile dementia, with a little bit of don't get old. Thanks for catching the mistake.
