Ethanol or Not?
03/12/18 3:00 PM

The only gas stations near me that offers Ethanol free gas is only 91 octane. But the 93 octane stations has 10% Ethanol (which runs better). Which would be better for the bike????

If the 93 with octane runs better, I'd look into using an ethanol neutralizing additive. I can't remember what it's called but it's out there.

I ABSOLUTELY get the 91 ethanol-free here in FL whenever I can ... and I can't ever tell the difference in performance.

My bike sits for weeks and months at times, so I do my best to limit the amount of sitting with ethanol in it.

Ethanol free was recommended to me by dealership and others. I haven't heard of problem's using 91 octane instead of 93. I have heard good things about the Star Tron but how do you know for sure?

Yea, I guess it's better to run the Ethanol free for piece of mind. Thanks for the input everyone.

Star Tron works great. I've used it in my boat for years and never had a problem. If your bike is going to sit for several months add some star tron and go ride the bike a couple of miles so it gets distributed throughout the fuel system and you'll be good to go.

I've heard the same from another member who had ethanol problems in the fuel systems of all of his vehicles. He said Star Tron eliminated the problem.

2012 owner's manual says to use 90 Octane fuel.

I wouldn't have a problem with the 91. I've used 87 regular in mine a few times and never had a problem. It does definitely pop a lot more on regular so I can believe there is a real increase in detonation risk.

91 is as low as it goes in Australia
I don’t know any bike riders here who don’t use the 98.

Not sure why they would? Are they having problems running 91?

91 will give higher performance then 98

Side note, at least around here lower octanes cost less and
fuel storage turns over quicker so always fresh fuel. Sometimes higher
octane sits around longer.

Euro RON: 95 = US (R+M)/2: 91

Looks like Australia also uses RON so would make send to use 95~98

Looks like manual pic above is saying to use (R+M)/2: 90

For the last two years, I've used 91 octane ethanol free gas with no problems. My bike sits around alot and I don't want any ethanol in the tank to cause problems.
