Hello Alex-I recommend BatteryTenderJr.Have had mine for two years now-never had a problem with it.It was $29.95 at MotorcycleSuperstore-great shipping as well.Comes with a pigtail-you hook up to your battery and just plug the tender right into the connector(which I routed up under the foreman grill and then down [and virtually out of sight]in the cavity of the crankcase on the right side).Very clean and unnoticeable.Plug my battery in after every ride.Trouble free!

I use a BatteryTender Plus, because of the float mode. Does the Jr. have float too? I think I paid about the same for mine.

Anyway, the float mode is absolutely safe for long winter storage when the bike won't be started. You can't leave a bike battery on normal trickle charge for a long time, it will damage the battery over time.

The best battery tender I ever had was long ago when I was at West Point and had my H1 triple, and kept it at my girlfriend's parents farm, in the barn with the hay. Every day after school during the winter she would go in the barn, take the blanket off it, start it up and let it run a bit, let it cool, then cover it back up.

I got reports of her riding it around on the farm roads from time to time, but never caught her. She sure loved to be on the back of it though, every chance we got to go riding.

I only have one true regret in life, I let that one get away. Never found another one that good either. And I ain't talking about bikes.

Ya-the TenderJr has the trickle function.Green means GO!!!!!!!(the light, that is!)I put er on there like I said-she'll charge all week till my next day off. Then ride Baby,Ride!(my output on my bike's charging system virtually always stays at 14.0 volts)She used to drop some, around 13.2 or so,but since I installed those HID's-she's stayin right at 14 volts, sometimes 14.2.The battery was replaced at the beginning of last year-been faithfully pluggin her in since.Just basically want to see how long this batt will last doing it like this.Ride safe!!

I picked up 2 Schumacher motorcycle 1.5 amp battery tenders from wally world. They were under 20 bucks and kick butt. They have been tending my busa and 14 batteries for 2 years now flawlessly...never overcharge, and float charge the batteries, so you can leave them plugged in all the time. Plus they'll work on your 4 wheel vehicles as well if needed

+1 on Schumacher, Model SEM-1562A. Then, I never leave it on for too long, as here in So.Cal. we do not have an off season. BTW, I have been using it also to trickle charge a car battery. Working just fine.

Thanks guys!!

Privateer, that's a damn good story... sorry to hear about the girl. I think I just let one go as well and just might regret it till the end of my life. But the way things are right now, she's just not ready for me, and probably neither am I for her... sucks balls, but I'll wait a couple of years and see, let us mature some. Maybe a mistake..

I ended up getting Schumacher Automatic 1.5 amp charger, that's all they had at AutoZone here, but it looks like a good charger like BadinBlack and Steven said. I didn't want to order BatteryTender online b/c of shipping time - I need to charge her tonight so that if she is still weak, I can take her to dealership tomorrow for diagnostics. She's been charging for 2.5 hours now..

^^my schumaker batery maintainer did the job for me all winter. I think it would charge a drained battery a bit slower than most would like but it should get 'er done.

If you use it as a maintainer for storage, hook the negative cable of your pigtail to the bolt on the frame that grounds the battery (instead of hooking negative pigtail to negative battery terminal). That will allow you to pull the connector out of the fairing and hook to charger unit without removing the battery tray. <<that's a BadinBlack technique. I just pop open the battery cover, pull the connector out and hook it to the maintainer.

Rook, the intructions for the Battery Tender (Jr. or Plus) say to hook both wires of the pigtail directly to the battery terminals. So I did what the instructions said. Heh.

I just leave the pigtail pushed in alongside the battery during riding season, and then when its time to winterize, I pull the battery panel off, pull the pigtail out, sit the Tender on a small stool beside the bike, and plug it in.

Since the Battery Tender Plus I have as float mode, I can leave it on for 4 or 5 months through a bag winter with absolutely no problem. If you tried that in trickle charge mode, it would ruin the battery.

The Schumacher Model SEM-1562A switches to float mode automatically once the trickle charge is complete.

Thats what I like about the Battery Tender Plus, too. It starts out with a blinking green light. If the red light is on, either the battery is bad or the connection is wrong.

The blinking green light stays on while the unit trickle charges the battery to max. Once there, the unit goes into float mode, and the green light stays on solid.

Over the winter, I had the unit on a small stool beside the bike, with the connector coming out under the cover to the unit. Every morning I walked by it to get in the car to go to work, and was assured to see the green light on solid. Heh.

I still like my farm girl battery tender best, but oh well.
