Rook's vinyl stripes on midnight saphire blue

Well, there she is. Mimi's looking sweet in her tight vinyl stripes. A lot more work than painting but you can easily go back to OEM or do over if you screw up!

These are 3" stripes with 1" space between. It's about as bold as I think is tasteful. Actually, I think the front fender and the tank do not look so hot with such fat stripes. Sorry, no pics without the bra but just look at that fender. Oh well, I like it. The nose and seat cowl look hot. Ideal size is probably more like 2 1/2 inches with 3/4" space like the "Voodoo Viper bike" ZX-14. <<Do a search if you want.

Yo Rook-ya-looks GREAT!!Good Job!That vinyl's hard to get on there right. She looks good with the "fat"stripes on there.MAYBE----trim the front of the fender stripe on both sides to more of a point to the center? Not a radical cut, just a slimmer arc back to under the front there?(that's what I think I'd do)But she looks VERY COOL.

Looks good.
I would just do something to the front fender, where they appear just too predominant.
What if you remove about 3 to 4" from the fender leading edge and terminate them in an arrow formation, which would match the shape above the ram intake, and at the same tine the very rear end of the bike, right above the tail light?

You guys are both on to something with the fender stripe taper. I was thinking of something like that myself. Prolly just leave it as is for this year.

My advice on any kind of embellishment is if you saw it and you liked it, copy it exactly if you want to do a quick job. If you saw it on a showbike like the Voodoo Viper bike, it was already figured out what harmonizes best. You can avoid a lot of trial and error...but you miss out on a few discoveries, maybe.

I started at the fender and it took me at least eight hours to do. I redid the fender and had it done in half that time. It takes a while but once you get the idea of how to stretch it and lay it down over and over so it molds to the right shape, it's worth while. The best tip I have is to do it in the sun on a clear, hot day. The vinyl will stretch like nobodies business. Use a hair drier to really soften it up when you want to pul the vinyl around and under an edge like the tip of the front fender or the back edge of the seat cowl. Also have a cloth to wipe away dust as you lay the vinyl down. I wouldn't try to do the job with the fairings off. It would be too hard to hold them down and stretch at the same time.

^^...or better yet what if the fender were all white?

I redid the fender after the whole bike was done so I had a chance to see it with an unstriped fender. The fender looked a lot better but overall it seemed like it was missing something. I think a white fender with black spats would look great- only thing there is that I plan to paint the wheels white and that might be too much white all in one spot on a black bike.

Check this, Tape works.com Kit 5801FR bonfire lava reflective. It's a little pricey but I bet it looks way cool! skip the white stripes it makes it look like a police bike! Just my thought.

Thanks, all,

Ya you do sorta run the risk of looking coppish going panda and with stipes this fat, I would almost say it is a panda scheme. It kind of hit me as looking police b/w too but I'm not about to rip it off now.

Makes me wonder if I should paint the wheels white now.

Can anybody do a photoshop for me?

I like the white wheels idea. White background on the foreman grills, but with the fins left in blue, might be a nice bit as well. Or maybe white fins with blue background.

Rook, hey I was a little harsh talking about the cop look and shit, sorry about that. I just think that midnight blue paint is beautiful and you dont see very many 14's that color. That bike is begging to be chromed out!

Very nice Rook. Chrome wheels would pop with that one of a kind stripe scheme.

Hey, no sweat man. I'm happy with it and I can always peel it off some day. Not so sure about getting a lot more white on there, myself. I was thinking of painting the crankcase cover white too. Maybe a saturated blue or a bright red. First things first, I gotta get that rear mudflap off and hang those stock pipes from the ceiling like a chandelier or something.

Always helpful to hear an honest critique.

Thanks for pics, Ray. That's where I got the idea. I saw that just before I bought the 14 and knew i had to do something like that to my bike. Notice how a small reduction in the width of the stripe on the Viper Bike still looks bold but does not overwhelm the front fender.
