low idle after initial warm up cycle
03/29/17 5:19 PM

sometimes when i start my bike up and let it run through the warm up cycle, it tends to idle very low and often cuts off. i can start it right back up, and usually it's ok. this won't happen as much on hotter days though. Anyone have any idea why this may happen..?...

i appreciate the help!

When the bike warms up, set the idle to 1.100 +/- 50 rpn.
How many miles on the spark plugs?
When was the air cleaner last changed?

If those are both good, you could try an engine vacuum synch.

...bike only has 11,800 miles..it's an 07...i bought the bike with 7500 miles on 2013..i haven't done anything with the spark plugs, and thought that they would last a lot longer than 11,800 miles...i'm due to change the air cleaner, so i'll start there...

...thing about the issue is when the weather is warm, it won't happen...AND it doesn't KEEP happening...

thanks for the info...

ROOK--what's an engine vacuum sync?

i think a vacuum sync would be noticeable at idle...kinda up and down engine speeds.not stalling.i think hub nailed it.i run mine around 1000 rpms...does well always.

Engine vacuum sync is adjusting the throttle bodies vacuum. The plates are adjusted to restrict flow equaly so that the vacuum measured within each body is the same. Mine was off quite a bit and synching it did not make any change. I thought maybe if your's was off really bad, that could cause it to idle poorly.

+1 to Hub's comments, I had a similar problem last year, was simply a matter of the idle adjuster was moved when I was doing other work.

On the left hand side of the engine near the front sprocket cover, look for a black "pipe" hanging down with a thumb screw on it (see below), this is your idle adjustment. With the bike fully warmed up, adjust it until you reached the desired RPM.

Not my pic but shows what the cable looks like:

..i appreciate the help...went out and adjusted the idle and tightened up the throttle cable...honestly, it's the best it's sounded ever...the bike seems to run a lot stronger too...today was the first ride of the season!!!
(now, onto figuring out the newly found PCV :o
