Thank you gents! Yeah, streetsweeper, kinda sucks but I must say, I got my full use out of that bike. I may rebuild it with a 14R motor or buy a new 14R. I'll have a close look at it. If the frame is still straight, I'll feel comfortable going fast on it. piken LOL, I'm thinking about keeping those reservoirs I just ordered! I actually need them now!

To be perfectly honest, I don't think I'll be going fast on the street anymore in which case, I don't see much reason in riding on the street much if at all. I still love these bikes though and I love going fast so I may start the track only era of my riding career. Sounds more dangerous to those who don't know better but it's so much safer than doing it on the street.

Rook also check out some dual sport bikes. Riding off road is a ton of fun. check out the yamaha xt 250, or hondas xr650l. im sure there is some good off roading in your state.

There's should be places to ride off road right here where I live but I've never heard any of the kids talk about dirt bike riding. A lot of them have ATVs and some ride the trail which is maintained by our county or state. I'm not sure I'd be a lot safer on a dirt bike though! I rode off road when I was kid and I had a few crashes. Ironically, I'll bet there are fewer deer on the trails than there are on the street.

I drove over the crash site several times today. The crash happened just past one of my faster corners. I probably would have been going at least 70 or 80 by the time I saw the deer. Driving the same stretch at 60 mph, I had 3 seconds before I could have seen the deer and reached the point where the collision occurred. I remember coming up over the rise and the bright tan fur stood out clearly against the surroundings so I'd say I saw the deer immediately. I probably had 2 seconds before impact and that seems about right to my memory.

The deer was standing ON the road near the RH shoulder. A rev bomb would have startled her but I have no way of knowing if that would have ended up saving us or not. I believe the best thing to do is drive right at them especially if they're on your side of the road. Takes some stones to do that on a bike.

The gas station owner told me the guy who called 911 was a doctor and didn't take any further action to avoid liability. I laid in the road for 20 minutes. Cars may have driven around me while I was laying across the northbound lane. I know one stopped because that's who woke me up.

That's ok, maybe the doc gave me a quick lookover and determined I had no serious injuries. Getting run over would be a pretty serious injury though.

Sorry Rook, but where I come from that is anything but okay!
A person with medical knowledge not assisting when required in a situation like that is unacceptable and a complete disgrace.

Incase you have any form of amnesia happening, you did not have a small splinter in your finger.
You had a fully blown motorcycle accident and was lying unconscious on the road!
You could have had serious internal injuries that left untreated could have resulted in your life!

"oh, I was worried about liability".
Remember the Hippocratic oath that you and all newly qualifying doctors were required to swear upon???
You are no medical practitioner.
You are a coward and a dog.
Fuck you.

Wow Rook. I don't get on here too much anymore. I'm kind of bored right now. My wife left for vacation to Wisconsin yesterday to see her sister so I thought I'd see what's going on with everybody. When I saw the title of your thread I looked at the date to make sure it wasn't April 1st (April fools). I couldn't believe what I was reading. I know you like to take weight off your bike, but not that way. I looked at the pictures you posted on the Hayabusa forum. I've never seen knees and fingers that looked like that. Looks VERY painful! I'm just glad it wasn't any worse. Thank God you're smart enough to always wear a full face helmet. With the scrapes on your helmet, without you wearing it, you might not have a face left and you wouldn't be here with us anymore. I thank God you're here to make many more posts.
I can't believe a single person didn't stop and pull you off the road. Someone had to of driven by you and saw you lying there. Not too considerate in my book.
I pray God will heal you quickly and your body will be back to normal, or even better, in Jesus name.
Take care buddy!

Yannih,
Why would you even suggest that I was thanking God for sending a deer into Rook's path? For one thing, God didn't send the deer onto the road. They have their own mind, just as we do. Another thing, don't ruin this thread by asking me such a stupid question. Anyone that would wish for a deer to run onto a road in front of a bike or a car has to have a screw loose. We have thousands of deer where I live, too and I'm always looking out for them. It's never even crossed my mind that God would send a deer in front of me so I would crash. This is about Rook not me. I have no idea where you got out of what I said that I was thanking God for the deer running out in front of him.
Let's end this conversation with that being said.
Have a good day.

I know where Yanni's coming from because we and others have discussed this topic at length. I thank you for your words and prayers, mokaw and I appreciate them. What you believe is as good as what I believe. One thing I believe is that all thoughts have power and influence over reality. Sounds a little flakey but I think it's true. Poistive energy and negative energy from our thoughts makes a difference in the ereal world. It doesn't always make the whole difference but it helps, so much appreciation.

I think I may have neglected to thank the paramedics and cops that came to help. I was a bit in shock. I'm sure I thanked the tow truck driver who gave me a ride home and I didn't mind so much the $320 bill.

I believe I "thanked God" in my thread on the org. It is still the grandest way I can express thanks whether I believe or not. I was very thankful for my helmet saving my life and keeping me from having facial reconstruction and brain damage I may never have come out of if it were not fatal. I'm thankful for the people at Shoie and elsewhere who designed helmets to be as safe as possible. That includes wind screens that don't break or come off. Mine was unlocked and still stayed shut somehow. It didn't break after at least a 70 mph faceplant so think about that the next time you buy a helmet. The cheap helmet I have has a windscreen that flips up when I turn my head on the bike.

I thank the paramedics who cared about my health and would have done what was safest if I were unable to speak.

I thank the cops who listened to me and didn't give me a ticket for my registration tag from 2016 and trusted me that I had insurance in my back pocket which I did. LOL maybe he just didn't want to run me in in my condition if I didn't have insurance but thanks anyway. And thank you man and lady cop for helping hold my bike up while loading.

Thanks to the guy who called 911. Maybe you were watching over me while I lay unconscious to protect me from any traffic that might not see me, I don't know. If not, consider it if there's a next time.

Thanks to Yanni and mokaw for kind thoughts which really help me at this time and thanks to all the people.

If there's God, thanks for not letting me die this way. If it took letting a deer crash me, I guess you would know that it was worth it. I'm also thankful to God if you're there for that shoe staying on my foot with laces completely blown right off, that was truly miraculous. My toes would be to the bone looking at the condition of my knees and I would be in the hospitiol...and I would have tell my mom. right away. I did explain in detail to my kids and I said no more street riding for me.

I had several friends call to offer help and Vickey the RN is a friend. She let me ride her warhorse a couple years back which I would show a pic of if I could. BUT thanks God too.

I see my wrist swelling has gone down a lot. I'm thankful to my body for being healthy enoughto do that and so far, looks like he's fighting off any infection too (along wit the help of antiseptics for which I thank the people who developed those). If God has a part in that, THANK YOU GOD.

I don't know. Nobody knows. Supposedly we all will know one day and there's nobody but God to thank God for not letting me find out now.

It's an intriguing quandary. No need to let it stir up negative vibes. ...and let me assure everyone, Yanni is as good in his heart or better than all the believers I know. Non-believers are still mostly good people.

Yeah, I too missed this thread. Welcome to the club, Rook. It goes with the sport. A Lucky Boy is he... when you can walk away from it. I think I can count about 16 career get-offs and you begin to know your body. So I have a few questions and suggestions having a little experience with the other side of the sport.

Hand wise, you can move the fingers, yes? Typing is not slowing you down, unless you are a one finger type (pun).
Broken bone wise, anything on the body or digits look black and blue? I see that yellow color, I know I broke something. And it kind of like has a lot of pressure pain of its own. Nagging pain while moving the body part.

Let me take that back. My lower (cough) was so black and blue, you can't break a bone there if said boner occurred. Tank looked worse once Cody rubbed across the 5.8. Just saying, the constant high pain threshold is more that concentrated bone area. Can't cast your ribs so nature sort of finds its way back. Chipped a wrist bone and saw the float away in the x-ray. Saw it again and went back in place. Not a Dr., but I think if you don't cast a bad break... that's something different.

For sure I'd X the hands. Break that cashew looking bone [look it up] and not screw it back on, you'll have a bad time down the road throttle/brake/clutch wise I hear.

I saw the hand and knees. Those are going to grow back, but you might feel they seem tight once you bend. They are nice and black hard, right? I call mine street tattoos once that scab falls off. I know the guys over at the busa site say to use some cream, but I let nature do its thing and found out... the more I showered [plenty of water not cream] it seemed to heal faster. I'd be soaking those hands in some warm water and override the stinging. That's the soaker/shower suggestion(s). Home remedy is water and time.
___________________________________________________________
Bike wise, are we talking about having insurance coverage at a minimum? You eat the crash/total? Used pod is the big ticket if not new. Where the front engine Y brackets are... we see any cracks at the frame around that area? Front end (not forks) takes the hit, that neck will move the energy right at that flex point. Energy keeps moving back, rear frame [I forget where] will have a crack. Shows up well against a black frame.

When you take the forks off, look for a crease at the lower pinch areas, meaning, right now you can drop the one leg down so you look for a crease... back to energy taking out the upper and lower triple trees. Go look at the fork stops right now. One stopper now looks like this / and the other stop is upright, or not bent meaning?

Where you go lookup the KBB price of a trade-in and weigh the parts against the trade value and do you now ebay the salvage or??? Because you can eliminate all that shit ram crap. Open frame windows to the air cleaner. That goop glue vid and bend one thick welding rod wire to glue an old harley headlight bucket and a headlight bulb at NAPA all day long.

Frame passes, front end passes, pod is salvageable with a new mount half to be bolted back on, the new dash pod hanger... It's a runner in the cheap seats.

Ain't split seconds before your eyes and not a fucking thing you can do, but enjoy the experience of speed and how fast shit happens? I love that kind of shit... when you are still alive to slow the fuck down or not.

Welcome to the club, Rook. It goes with the sport.

Yep, I remember your early tutelage well, Hub, "leathers with sweatsuit underneath." No way your loosing skin again, come what may.

Hand wise, you can move the fingers, yes?

Yeah, no problems except I don't have fingertips on all but my pointers and thumb right now. So I'm back to two finger peckinf for a little while but everything seems normal in finger movement.

Broken bone wise, anything on the body or digits look black and blue?

I had no bruises until day 2 when a black eye showed up. Vick says probably my glasses and one nose support is way bent on the glasses. Right wrist is still a little sore but swelling went down. No bruising. Glad I went to sleepy right about the time that happened. I missed all the pain of the sprain and everything else. The wrist is barely sore but I notice it when I lift out of a chair with the armrests.

My lower (cough) was so black and blue, you can't break a bone there if said boner occurred.

Beg to differ on that one. You got an overly excited girl, she can do a lot of damage. Heals on its own you get a natural casing bend instead of a machine pressed OM Weiner from the shrink wrapped 8 pack. You now do some fun new things with your wrap around periscope. BTW, most sausages are natural casing from the DNA plan...so be careful, as if I need to tell you.

I saw the hand and knees. Those are going to grow back, but you might feel they seem tight once you bend. They are nice and black hard, right?

They are mostly black-red. Still an open spot on each calf scrape from sleeping but I got that solved now. Chair at bedside I sleep one foot on chair. That's why I'm up now I suppose. Good for calf wounds, not good for sleep.

They feel tight already. I sit, they tear open and leak clear golden liquid. Its the plasma. So, no sitting for a while. Lay and stand. I'm like a Ken doll. The antiseptic grease helps soften them but soaks in quickly. Yes, showers do seem to help a lot. Also might wash away the covering leaving vulnerable to bacteria so that's a judgement call.

Yes at a minumum. That's what my insurance was. I made out. Liability. Bike's mine, no money from insurance. 12 year old 50k miles, I suppose they would have given me a couple thou for the bike minus deductible. IDK what they would have done for the aftermarkets.

Will check frame and whole bike. No fucking way I'm doing that now. I can't sit let alone kneel.

Frame passes, front end passes, pod is salvageable with a new mount half to be bolted back on, the new dash pod hanger... It's a runner in the cheap seats.

Pod was ripped off. Busted. Deer came through cowling I think. Will know when I can inspect closer. New pod and fairings and gas tank at least. Most other looks good from quick visual. Frame slider broke off, engine mount still there.

Ain't split seconds before your eyes and not a fucking thing you can do, but enjoy the experience of speed and how fast shit happens? I love that kind of shit... when you are still alive to slow the fuck down or not.

Yeah, on the street if I ride the street again. I'm planning the 14 will get a fuel cell, race fairings and a 14R engine with nitrous. I'll be doing 160 every weekend on a drag strip where it's safe. There's a 14R drag racer that runs a shop in the next town. ...and I got you so I'll look to yous for guidance if I go that way. It would be a long process.

Thanks Hub.

Nah Rookster.
Still looking for any kind of answer(s) which never seems to come.

How are you travelling and how is all the damage coming along?

Again, there is no way I would be as positive as you are at this moment if I was going through what you are.
You are a better man than I am Gunga Din!

Don't change.
Keep that amazing attitude and gratefulness (that it wasn't far worse) going.
It must stand you in good stead in the healing process.

Respect...

Thanks 1440u. There could be a lot of positive things coming out of this like a better 14!

How are you travelling and how is all the damage coming

The knee scabs pull, crack and hurt because of the flexion at the joint so I was applying an antibiotic cream (probably more water based) to make the scabs softer. I ran out of that cream so I applied Neosporin (probably petroleum based) to scabs which dissolved them and some of the scab dripped away with the exuding fluid. The scabs rehardened after about 18 hours and they hurt again. I used another ointment (probably petroleum again) and it also dissolved the scabs. DAMN I've been working so hard to get scabs with all this drainage and I'm letting the scabs wash away! I had not washed the scabs for two days but now I could see no reason not to because they were going to dissolve away anyhow. I wrapped the liquified scab legs in Glad wrap and made them 30 mile trip to Walmart to buy gauze and tape. When I got home and took the Glad off, the scabs were gone and the juice in the wrap had a very mild odor to it but it was not a good odor. I went to the shower right away and when done, I noticed a white membrane of dead skin over the wounds which I decided to leave alone even though it was detached and easily pulled off. I applied Neosporin to everything and dressed with gauze. Felt great but now I'd be starting over and going the wet wound care rout instead of dry and I never even talked to a doctor. My nurse friend was not answering some of my questions and she was not available to visit and have a look. She had never asked for pics but I sent her some showing the dead skin membranes. Her message back was that I shouldn't panic but I should make an appointment to have wounds cleaned and debrided ASAP. Except for the fact there were no more scabs and the membrane dead skin, the wounds looked good to me. There was no puss but there was a broken purple trail from my left knee down my shin to my foot which concerned me. Was that just a bruise or infection spreading to my foot?

I called a clinic the next morning and they said they would get me in somehow, just wait for a call. I called them three times to ask and on the last one, they said I could go to urgent care. Although I knew urgent care would be twice as expensive, I went. One person ripped a dressing stuck to the wounds from my knee and I yelled. Then she ripped a second time but that wound only let go about halfway. I screamed agan and told her to put water on it but she had already ripped it all the way off. Maybe tat was to prepare me for what was to come. They washed with soap and wash cloth pressing very firmly. Some chunks of dead skin came out. Then they went to work with tweezers plucking the pieces of attached dead skin. It was very panful and I yelled and beat my legs with my fists throughout the procedure. I held my legs down by tensing up and pushing my heels into the bed cushion. Zero anesthetic.

When all was done, they recommended a tetanus shot which I declined because it will be a lot cheaper at a normal doctor and a cat scan to look for brain bleeding. There is no sign of infection, the wounds are healing and I should continue to wash, cover with ointment and gauze. I'm expecting a $2000 bill but at least I'm assured everything is ok. They said I will also probably get a bill for the ambulance I didn't use. I hope not, the paramedics asked my name but no other info. I didn't call them and they talked to me, I just answered their questions and sat on the step at the back of the ambulance as they asked me to do.

I'm still gathering hearsay and putting the story together. I heard the ambulances come from Ojibwa which is the town I crashed in. The kid who woke me up was in fact the kid I thought he was. His grandmother told me he was there with a friend and the adult was the friend's father. They called the ambulance. If this jives with other info I've heard, they were on the scene right after the accident and the ambulance would have been there in ten minutes. I was probably only unconscious for a few minutes rather than 20 minutes. That's reassuring. Twenty minutes seems like it would be a long to be out.

So all's good. I'm just waiting for the bill.

A guy I know will be going to the Iola swap meet later this month. He said he would look for a 14R motor for me. He wants to buy my motor to put in his wind boat! I think it would turn a big enough fan at 11,000 rpm. He said it already flies with the lower rpm motor it has. this is a good guy to know. He has a shop with lifts at his home. Kind a crusty old curmudgeon mechanic type like Hub. I guess I better get back up and around soon so I can check that frame out.

Hey Rook, just checking in to see how you're doing. I'm glad you went to the clinic to get checked out. The way your fingers and knees looked, it had to be very painful. It was good that you decided to have some professionals check you out.
I showed your pictures to my 12 year old grandson. He looked and then turned away. He said "I can't look at that. It's too gross."
It sounds like you're doing the right things to address your wounds. Keep doing what you're doing and you should heal quickly.
Take care and keep the faith.

Thanks, mokaw. The RH fingers are unscabbed now and just need to grow a top layer of skin. Actually, I expect the lower layer will need to grow up to the top, the epidermis probably doesn't regenerate. Anyway, those are healed. The left fingers are still scabbed. The side of the right thumb took a beating and the large scab is taking longer to heal. The thumb would has a minor infection but my nurse buddy looked at it today and was not real concerned. With the knuckles and opposable joint in the thumb, that's a hard scab to keep from cracking open. I was inclined to dissolve the scab with ointment and moist heal it like the knees but my nurse friend said to leave it and let it drain if it wants to. The urgent care nurses noted the thumb but didn't bother with it.

Getting the knees picked clean was a bitch for sure.

When/if your grandson rides, hopefully seeing what happens when you go down without good gear will help him remember he has to have his gear on all the time. When we're aware of danger, we take precautions and it's very likely we will avoid the danger. It's those times you never saw it coming that will git ya when you luck runs thin and all you have to count on then is your safety gear.

You fucking cream filled tube squeezer. Takes a Neanderthal to think, what would they do falling down a mountain being chased. Call Rite-aid? Wash the stink, ya think? Water, water on the wall, how do I heal the fastest of all?

You know I gotta up you one, Rook... with that square inch v. forty miles of bad road.

That was cool Hub!

Yikes!I threw a gpz 750 away on memorial day 1987,lost everything from waist to neck on my back. Man that was a long sticky summer. I can also tell you a nipple will grow back. I lost one falling off a skateboard when I was 10. Now it hurts just getting out of bed, I couldn't imagine going through that now. Heal up quick Rook!

DAMN! Thanks Daddyrabbit.

I haven't checked the frame for damage. I know the crankcase cover ground through in the slide and from the oil spray on the road, looks probable the engine was turning when the bike slid over the gravel shoulder and into the weeds. Considering I crashed at a reasonable speed, that first hundred feet of sliding happened in about one second so it's very possible the engine was turning after the cover ground through. The engine might still be salvageable but I'm not building this beast back unless I get a Gen2 motor in it.

As I see it, my options are:

A) Partzilla sells a brand new Gen1 ZX-14 engine assy for about $6000. They're checking on availability of a Gen2 for me. I'm thinking the Gen2 OEM engine assy might not be available right now because Kaw is still manufacturing the ZX-14R but if it's available, I could buy a 0 miles Gen2 engine and do the conversion on my Gen1.

B) As far as a used Gen2 engine, there are no good ones available right now on Ebay. I'm also a bit reluctant to buy any used engine.

C) If a new 0 miles engine is $6000 and new fairings will cost $2000, other necessary OEM parts I know need replacing like a meter unit and fairing stay will sure cost at least another $2000. Now you're almost up to the cost of a 2021 ZX-14R. I could just buy a 14R and swap as many aftermarket parts from my Gen1 over as possible.

I could just buy a 14R and swap as many aftermarket parts from my Gen1 over as possible.

When I transferred to a black Gen 2 over my old blue Gen 1, thats exactly what I did and every part was a direct swap and fit.

I know your mods are far more involved than mine so that might not be the case for every upgrade but I'm sure the vast majority will be fine.

After doing this myself, I would highly recommend the Gen 2 purchase (any year 2012 and after) with your upgrade mod's transferred where possible as there are too many factory upgrades that come standard on the Gen 2 to be ignored.
Check out the below link which I'm sure you've seen before...
