I’m coming up over a rise doing about 70 mph and up ahead I see a deer. Will she cross? Hell yeah, she crossed. I heard the sound of a loud thump and that’s all I remember. I woke up laying in the road near rye bike. One of my 8th grade students came to me. His father was there too. I got up feeling the scrapes on my knees and hands. I didn’t crap myself. The ZX-14 lay in the ditch, opposite side of the road I was traveling on and the bike was facing the opposite direction I was traveling. There was broken plastic all down the road and I saw right away the crankshaft cover was scraped clean through. An ambulance came very soon. I refused treatment. No broken bones. The cops arrived and they figure me and the bike slid abut 70 feet. The deer was found dead in the woods a short distance away. I’m in no shape to butcher a deer or I’d have taken it. It will be left for the forest scavengers, I’m sure.

Have fingertip skin gone on both hands, had light duty gloves. a couple bad gouges on my right knuckles. Both knees scraped the size of oranges. I had jeans on. No serious upper body or head injuries. I had a textile jacket now ripped up and a helmet. My ribs are quite sore below my pecs. I probably hit the handlebars. Right hand knuckles are swollen and juice is still coming out. I was very thirsty after the crash and still am but have not drank too much water. I don’t think I have a concussion. I’m feeling fatigued and for, mostly on the abrasions.

I guess I will show pics of me ASAP.

I will show pics of the bike. The tow guy brought it to my storage unit. Lots of aftermarket goodies I’ll salvage. will sell cheap if anyone is interested. I can’t find my title to the bike so I couldn’t hand it over to the tow guy.

I’m going to try to take a shower. and go to sleep soon.

Good sign, I can't sleep. No concussion. That shower was excruciating for the first 8 minutes. All cleaned up. Still exuding juice from my excoriated skin. I'm covered up with an old blanket that I hope will absorb most of the juice. Nobody sleeps in my bed but me anyway so if the bed gets stained, no biggy. Fond memories. I feel better already after a rest. I'll be ok.

I normally can't sleep so that's cool.

I am so sorry you and your amazing 14 have had this happen.
Why is it that really good people experience this sort of shit and the low breeds go on their merry way without a problem?

No idea how long I was laying there. I don't think real long. LOL If I could pick any kid to scare the shit out of it would have been that one. He had some terrible behavior last year in school. I'll have to thank him for rescuing me. Maybe he'll be better next year or else I will threaten to become a bloody ghost and haunt him.

Yeah that amazing 14 of mine is fu-uh-uhked up! Fuel tank is dented. Top cowl and meter unit completely broke off. Plastics busted, it slid on that amazing Tsukigi Cannon exhaust. Ohlins forks might be ok. Shock is fine. Probably al the Dynojet stuff is ok. Carrazzerias are probably ok. Rearsets, quickshifter ok. Battery was ready to replace already but I think I left the ignition on. The lights were all busted off so I didn't know. I had plans for ISR brakes and get that nitrous system on there and she would have been done.

No concussion, I'm wide awake and it's 3:00 am. Haven't slept a wink yet. Sure glad school is out. I guess this is the time of year to crash a bike! Plenty of R&R!! I'm planning to take my daughters to their first rock and roll show on July 17 so hope I'm mostly healed by then.

Do you know if it was the same deer that maybe came back across or do you think there was a second unseen that came out right as you passed? That just bugs me bad as I know it can happen to any of us at any time.
Hope you get healed up and like you said, you still have the busa for now.

I just found the crash site. The deer is still there and something grabbed a chunk out of the hind quarter. I don't think my bike did that but I will be going back momentarily to inspect her more. The chunk was missing from the RH hind quarter and she came out across the road from the right so I doubt I would have hit her there. She exited the road to the left the same way she was running toward when I hit her. Glad I killed her right away.

Looks like there is a 12 foot light skid mark and immediately after, scrape marks on the road and a trail of oil. I went down as soon as I impacted the deer. Get this, I paced the trail from where I went down to where me and the bike were lying. Seventy-six paces. That's freegin 225 feet I slid. It was a slight downhill grade which didn't help. The fuel tank is dented on both sides, the ground down crankshaft cover was facing up where she lay. That bike flipped at least once. Severe damage both sides. I can't believe I'm not in far worse shape. I feel pretty ok now. Still a little sore in the ribs and of course the wet wounds hurt but not bad. The less severe ones are dried up now. My helmet doesn't look to be in real bad shape. The face shield is scraped but not bad other than that. I must have rolled at least once because I have scrapes on the side of my calf and knee as well as both knees right up front.

I'll go get pictures now. I can't post them because my photos don't work here anymore. You'll have to visit the busa forum. I'll leave a link.

I THINK it probably would have been 70. Probably. Could have been 90 because that's what I take the bigger corners on this road at. Probably about 70. To my recollection, she almost made it. I think it was her hind end I hit but it killed her quick so I expect a little to the front.

Deer crossing signs? IDK? I ride this road all the time and I knew there are deer. There's fuggin deer everywhere hear. It's sort of not needed to post signs. Lesson learned. LOL "They're supposed to only use those areas to cross"!!!

That's a lot of ground contact in 225 feet. Were you wearing Kevlar lined riding jeans. I guess at the speed you were going you could think of a skipping rock until you reached re-entry speed.

I'll email them to you. Just bloody knees and hands. A poor young doe with mutilated hind quarter. you see the sacrum clearly. No idea how it ended up on the RH quarter unless a bear took a bite out. Doesn't look moved. I didn't want to touch her. Lots of flies. Left lower leg snapped like a twig which makes sense given the direction she was running. She may have reared up and tried to kick? Deer usually use their front legs to kick I thought.

Rook, I'm glad you walked away from the crash...deer hits can be brutal.
If you decide to rebuild the bike, I'll gladly donate whatever parts I have lying around.

Thanks Hank. I'll keep it in mind but you know what, the damn bike doesn't look all that bad. The top is totally trashed but I don't see a mark on the frame. The forks aren't leaking. The radiator is wet but I think it's oil or deer juice. Radiator doesn't look bent at all. The freegin pipe even looks ok.

Darn Mr Rook we can definitely say when you crash and burn you do it in style. 1st is glad you made it with what appears to be minimal scathing and 2nd it is only a toy that is now broken. One cannot rebuild an old toy or build a new toy if all of your body parts are not working.
Glad you are doing ok and now know what my 2008 would look like after a go down. As others have said keep an eye on the healing up parts for infection.

Thanks lytnin. I just used tea tree and mint shampoo to wash and it was sheer agony. I was grunting and groaning 40 minutes after I got out of the shower. Good antiseptic though. May your 2008 make it to 2088 and beyond! Pass 'er on down!

Not sure what bits and pieces I may have but I'll dig thru my stuff if u decide you want to rebuild it.

I think I will talke my landlady up on her offer. Her daughter is an RN and she said she'd take care of it for free! I know I'm a cheapskate when it comes to things I think aren't necessary but if it's free....

I was whining and crying in the shower the last two days, Yan. Especially with the mint tea tree shampoo treatment. I might go mostly water for a while.
