I read a while back that you used the Pro Bolt engine kit on your bike, do you know what the torque spec would be on these kits. I would like pick up one these kits for my 14r. I’m assuming that you would pull one bolt out at a time then replace with new and then torque to spec? Thanks in advance.

For aluminum, I google "general torque spec for aluminum bolts." Measuer the thread diameter of the bolt with calipers or just check on the Problts site for the bolt measurements--it will tell bolt thread diameter then and check the torque spec online. You probably can go about 15~20% shy of that.

To tell you the truth, I don't think I really think I used a torque wrench on the engine covers except for the valve cover and that was OEM bolts. Aluminum strips pretty easy and stretches. Look at the bolt, tighten it how hard youthink you should stopping well before you think those threads will stretch. 3 ft lbs is probably plenty. Feel it by hand first snug and then just a bit more. then check with a torque wrench going to 2 ft lbs. If it turns just a hair, leave it. if it doesn't turn, i would not try to test 3 ft lbs with a torque wrench. It is probably about there. Those bolts don't vibrate out easy, trust me. Use the anti-seize. No need for locktite on the engine covers. Check once in a while, you'll see. They won't leak either even if you do not go to OEM torque. I'll bet the factory didn't even torque wrench them. My OEM bolts were not tight.

Often the paint chips a little right around the head of the bolt when you take it out. You might get a touchup bottle at the Auto Supply. I'm guessing charcole grey would be close. I have a $60 bottl of Coloright frame and engine color and it is really not worth it for the little chips around the bolts.

No, I never use a torque wrench on aluminum bolts. If it's one that vibes loose a lot, just blue Loktite. Had problems with rear rotor bolts. Blue LT fixed it. The Ti bolts seem to loosen up easy. Aluminum is reliable. Just DON"T go tight. Head strips breaks threads stretch strip. Real tiny aluminum bolts---forget it. Gently snug is good blue loktite.
