Would I buy one again, probably not. I already have a Pit Bull forward arm stand for the rear, would have been much cheaper to buy a front wheel stand. The one advantage the ABBA has over using regular stands is that the suspension is unloaded front and rear.

You'll be glad if you hang on to it. There's stuff that you can't do with a stand that supports the swing arm or under the forks. I have a front steering pivot stand and a front fork lift stand and a swingarm stand. I still use my swing arm pivot stand a lot.

For us apes the ABBA can be a bit confusing the first use as it, you know, has more than one part. My theory is us apes probably designed the first wheel stands, so wheel stands make sense to us. You know, basically how to solve the problem of lifting something heavy? Well, just wedge a big bent up chunk of metal under it until it lifts up! Ape solve problem.

The Brits are a bit more clever at least at practical, mechanical things. The problem is the ABBA no matter how hard you jam it under the rear axle isn't going to lift the bike up at least without probably breaking something. It's got to be used as it's designed to be used, not half-way or jury rigged to do so.

ABBA stand update:

When I ordered my stand I assumed, incorrectly, that it would arrive ready to go. The "cups" I referred to are the holders for the bike specific adapters which did not come with my stand. Just so happens the "cups" are a perfect fit for the end of the swing arm axel which is why I didn't know I was missing the adapters. When I called BlueStreak a second time this is when they informed me the adapters would be coming directly from ABBA in the UK.

After receiving and installing my adapters on Saturday I am a much happier person because now my bike is secure.

Yes I did try lifting the bike by pulling on just the strap, for a reason, I wanted to see how much force it would actually take. In my post I stated that I did remove my seat, wasn't about to push on the plastic. Now that I know how much force it takes to pull the front wheel up I have devised a simple ratchet mechanism to do the job. I can now lift the front wheel with a couple of pulls on the ratchet handle with one hand and actually do it faster then I can type this sentence. And I don't have to remove my seat or push on anything, much better, easier, and quicker.

Think I'll keep and use my stand now.

Rkt,

I'm glad and relieved to read this, especially since you bought it on my recommendation. I was nearly afraid that was maybe what was happening (why I asked for pics - although now I'm glad you didn't raise it again). I can see that as being completely scary, unsafe, daunting, and well completely unsatisfactory.

I find it odd they didn't ship the pins with your stand or at least tell you they would be shipped separately. If you watched my review they shipped everything in one package. I did mention about them not really communicating about the package being shipped and what not, so in a way it's not too surprising. They are not as verbose as most larger retailers are these days with emails and tracking info. Before I ordered, I read quite a few reviews on BSR, and most people had great things to say (even mentioning Tony by name, the owner).

As far as your ratchet system, can you take some pics and maybe put a how-to together? Sounds like a great system I would like to check out.

So got my abba stand and used it on the bike. I have to say it was really easy to use. I did watch Vic's review video a couple times which helped. Only downside I would say would be the strap they give you for the front wheel lift. Bike is a bit heavy to use. Had a nice ratchet strap in my truck so used that which worked a lot better.

I know Rkt said he was using something like that. I might get one. I like the idea of ratcheting it up and I think it would be easier to release. For me it's not been much of an issue really, but I like things easy plus I could use a couple of good ratchet straps around the place.

Glad you like it, it's amazing people that don't have one think it takes a physics degree, black magic, and 2.5 days to setup.

My poor man's set up below. Use the Kawi centerstand for the rear and a swing arm stand for the front with a rod thru the front wheel axle. You can get a very inexpensive stand from Harbor Freight that works just fine, if you don't feeling like spending for a Pit Bull:

I prefer my pushing the bike up on the lift and up in the air. I am an old man and don't like bending over anymore

It takes up a lot less room than the lift

It really is a great stand. Easy to store, easy to use. Like most things it's not perfect but it's a really good product. Very glad I made it my choice.

Never very good at taking and posting pictures but will try to explain how I use my ratchet strap to pull down the back wheel.

I bought a steel bushing with the same ID and length as the small rear peg that the lifting strap attaches to. I greased the peg, slipped on the bushing, added a flat washer, and then pushed on an axel cap. Got the bushing, washer, and axel cap at Lowe's, I think it was 1/4 inch.

I have a bunch of ratchet straps for various things so I used one of the better ones because it works easier. On the adjustable bar there is a square plastic cap that faces to the front, I removed this cap. I slipped the hook of the short fixed strap in the open end of the adjustable bar, led the the strap down and under the peg with the bushing and then up to the swing arm spool. With everything in place, a few pulls on the ratchet, the back is down, and the front is up. I can slowly let the back down using the ratchet on tooth at a time. The flat washer and axel cap make sure the strap stay in place and don't slip off. Probably don't need bushing but in my opinion is makes it smoother, and it was cheap to do.

Still wouldn't have known about ABBA had it not been for Vic! Ended up being a great item that works well and is easy to use, glad I have it!!!

Very happy with my ABBA stand. Would be nice if there was a supplier in the States though.

Good, thorough vid Vic. Thanks for making and posting it. I know it takes a long time to make up and edit a vid like that.
