Carbon Fiber Farings
10/20/11 3:42 AM

Hey guys has anyone replaced all their fairing with carbon fiber? Or have you seen any pics you could post? I'm thinking about doing it to change her up a little. I remember seeing a zx10 photo of it and it looked sick. let me know what you think....

Mine is 100% carbon fiber.

Its a pain in the ass to initially fit, often requiring you to move mounting posts that don't line up, make cutouts larger or different shape, and drill out holes where wellnuts go because they are too small to get the wellnut in.

It also takes longer to take it off and put it on compared to OEM plastic because you have to fidget with it to get it aligned with the adjoining piece.

My service tech hasn't cussed at me, at least not to my face.

Here are two big photos which show the carbon fiber. Its hard to get it to show up in pictures sometimes, its pretty shiny. These are kind of old, but the carbon fiber hasn't changed since they were taken.

Here is one that shows the cf clearly, from when I was working on it a couple winters ago.....

Its easy to keep clean, you just wash it with any old car wash stuff.

CF must have cost a pretty penny Priv? Someone's getting a nice setup for sure... I don't think that they will realize how much $$ and work was put into it - your asking price is a steal!

jp you have to put the OEM pads in, and they cost a pretty penny. If you don't put them in, sections will burn out from the inside, and the panel(s) will become weak and/or crack.

Maybe not in a month, but sooner than you want to spend the $ to replace it.

Btw, who did you buy your top cowl from ?

bigw, the carbon fiber on my bike cost over $2,000.... I've got the receipts, but have never bothered to add them up. Plus my time to make them work. Plus the costs of OEM heat shield pads (mandatory).

Thanks, bigw, I think I'm pretty much offering to give it away.
