Redding California August 9,10 and 11th
08/11/19 7:45 PM

Friday evening was Street legal fun drags.. Just line up with some one and do your thing..It is great practise for clutch hand and reaction times Being having 400 ccs more than closest competition gave me a pretty big edge so had a great nite with about 16 or so passes LOL..Saturday things got serious and I took first place when it was over ..Sunday I guess I was finally wore out :) I started of with my first run a best ever getting down to 9.457 which was first time into the 4s.. then Q2 was a really bad red lite as I could not hod teh bike from creeping then did the same thing in first round of qualifying... sooo One win One loss for teh weekend I need to get to bed before midnite on race eves !!
Sat evening, I got back to the motel at 11 pm , showered and went to get some food..Started to walk out of the restaurant at midnite and was hit with a deluge of rain and wind ..Unbelievable stuff.. We had left teh bikes at our spot at the track with a canopy over them. Wind gusts at the airport adjacent to teh track were rumored to reach 89 mph . And yep.. blew two bikes over , broke my windscreen and one side panel plus some scratches everywhere..Got a call at 7 am and was told what happened so I wound up driving the hundred miles home to pick up spare windscreen and panel .. Worth it tho because of taking the win Sat evening.. Nothing left in the tank for Sunday tho altho I was not the only one getting red lites ..Numerous reds in all classes ...
Anyway I got a win, a couple of bucks and some very important testing on launch rpms..which allowed for the 9.457.. Next Sat is Street legal again so I will be ready :)

Sounds like a good time.

Sucks about the bike tipping over.

Congrats! Sounds like a great weekend but yeah, I hate when a bike tips over.

Nice run.

You're pushing the launch really hard! What's your 60' getting down to?

No tire warm up or nothing, just hit it and go!

Have you done the clutch mod? I'm Surprised the clutch is holding?

Even using 1/2 HD springs I'd be surprised if the clutch is
not slipping some, hard to tell some times.

Have you tried swapping all the springs or is the clutch pull to hard?

Curious....

I notice your shifting at 11K (trying) but from your Dyno chart peak HP and Torque
are at 10K?

Would not be better to shift at peak, is there anything to gain above 10k?

Just asking because I've always tried to shift at peak HP/Torque?

I wish I was smart enough to answer all your questions accurately Piken . I am just trying what feels best for me personally and it seems to be working albeit the advances are coming slowly :) The slip above shows a low mph cause I chopped the throttle at the stripe but still broke out . On a previous run that day during qualifying. I ran 125 mph in the 1/8 which is a PB. This tends to make me feel the clutch is holding up good. I do not like how close the brocks header comes to the oil filter so plan on changing back to the zyosh with my exhaust can ( megaphone)
I have started using an app, Dragtuner, which will help understand my runs a bit better plus it gives predicted et based on past performance . I am stuck between wanting to inspect clutch and change exhaust and the fact that I am going to Division 7 races at Vegas first week of October.. for some folks that is plenty of time but I move slow lol..

piken, Yes, the idea to run past peak is when you hit the next gear, it drops the rpm. Shifting at peak, you'd slow down rolling back up to peak and not catch the next gear. I'm guessing 4th gear is the last shift for the 1/4?

Here is you chance to kill a few birds. The first is to drop the oil pan and clean it while the pipes are off. This way you see the gray powder, clutch friction chunks, crank insert bearing debris if any. Clutch inspection is pulling the oil fill cap and note how deep the pressure plate is. You see that burnt friction material in the bottom of the pan, time to order all frictions or just replace who is out of spec. It's usually the most inner frictions take the initial touch and spin before the rest collapse and transfer that power.

Or say you pull the plates first, inspect for burnt frictions, then drop the pan and get the rest out... [for longevity Rook, is to pan ahead].

Thanks Hub...pulling the pan will be the plan..23000 miles and three years of racing and I am overdue for clutch plates so the pan will probably have garbage laying in it..

Las Vegas was a bust for me .came home early as neither I nor the bike felt good.
Just finished 1st of a 2 day race at Redding to wind up our ET Finals locked up the Track Championship a day early so the year winds up pretty good although far from my goal of an 8 second pass.
I still need to learn to ride this beast as spread for ET is as much as .15 yesterday but mph were dead on consistent at 151.7
Two more days of racing hetelocally to see about dropping my best ET which is sitting at 9.40

After this yrs experience, I have made a decision to extend the wheelbase in order to lower my times..Spent some time discussing the situation with a good friend and successful ZX14 racer and realized that last half second is just going to be too tuff on my stock wheelbase..I really tried tho :) Got to 9.405 :) which isn't too bad for SWB.. Gonna cost me some money tho cause my trailer is too short so need a 6x10 minimum and my lil Dodge City van wont pull anything bigger than my 5x8 without causing some problems down the road.. Oh well. Like a good friend once said...."That's hot-rodding " !! :)Say Hi to all my Texas friends and hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving.....
