friendly police

Last weekend in Jasper, Arkansas, while waiting my turn to fuel up, a County Sheriff's deputy pulled up and asked to see our driver's licenses (5 riders) Apparently he got a call about some "reckless driving" from a local citizen and we fit the description. As we were discussing passing a pickup with an unsecured load, two old hags in a Subaru pulled up, shaking their fists and yelling "get out of our county!" as loud as their cigarette-ruined voices would go. The cop looked down at them and said, "OK, beat it, I got this." He turned back to us and said "Look, guys, we don't want you out of our county and the last people I'll listen to are a couple of crackheads like those two. Be careful and have fun" As soon as our licenses were checked for warrants and unpaid tickets (none) we went on our merry way.

Arkansas depends upon tourist dollars and motorcycle riders are a big chunk of that. So if anyone wants to ride where you can stretch the bikes legs and test it's handling in the curves, I would wholly recommend Arkansas. Have fun in the country, behave in town and there's no better place to ride, especially if you have any dealings with the constabulary.

Cool Danno. I probably won't ever ride down there, unfortunately. Good, fair, honest cops are everywhere. Sometimes you walk away scott free and sometimes you walk away with a ticket. The problem is most people someone get's a ticket, they want to blame the cop.

I think having little age has some benefits too. Cops seem a little more lenient with me now than when I was younger. And my demeanor has always been the same, I've always been respectful when stopped (I guess I'm one of the rare people on earth who's never been ticketed for something I wasn't actually guilty of). But I think there's probably good reasons for them being a little tougher on younger people, it's to try to help as much as possible to help get them to being old people.
