wanna go 200
08/17/09 11:22 AM

Hey Guys'.
I have some land speed racing questions. How do you take off the speed limiter? Can a 14 get to 200mph on motor only within the mile strip at texas or maxton? I have an 09' with a full muzzy M14 exhaust, power comander and K&N air filter. Does anybody have any suggestions on other mods that help get to 200mph. Last question does anybody in the schaumburg/barrington area of Il. know of any good roads for high speed runs (smooth, straight,no cops, little traffic) I know I should keep it on the track but I don't know of one that is close and I at least want to pretend I am being safe.

We know the turf. One reason why we come back from our limiter runs, OK, limited runs. Others die obeying the speed limit. Go figure.
I keep telling ya you are safer on a bike running a touch faster than the rest of traffic. Go figure.

Figure the big guns are about to hand you some 2+2 tinkering. They have your setup.

Go on Bikeland and read Shane's build thread.

There are a lot of new owners around here that are unaware of what the zx14 is capable of
and who's racing input and experience to pay attention to IMHO.

How do you take off the speed limiter?

I remember reading there are some wires you can snip and there was also some post about grinding down some nut on the front sprocket or something like that. I think you're better off just going with a Speedohealer and setting it to -90%. That way, your bike will be tricked into thinking it's going 20mph when it's doing 200.

I don't know that you will quite make it to 200 without a little boost but you should be able to come close. There are stretches of highway North of Milwaukee where I might try it. I still worry about deer xing though.

Brock Davidson made it to 200 but they used a light weight pilot, Brock was too big. They had taken off the mirrors, installed ceramic wheel bearings, one of Brock's pipes,PCIII and race air filter, created an optimised map defeated the speed limiter and played with gearing. Otherwise stock motor. You can find the write up on his website.

kruz that sounds like alot of $$$ to go a lil faster i have not opened my 14 up to top speed yet but my 9 will do at least 175 mph(what ive had it up to) and i think it would get a lil more so id think the 14 would have to be close to the 200mph speed i would hope it would be faster than my 9 lol

Power required is exponential, eight times the power every time you double your speed. That's why going from 190 mph to 200 mph takes a huge increase in power. Aerodynamics is the smarter way.

It really isn't a lot of money if you read it.. Its just some of the basic mods.

Lower it, non o-ring chain, -1 front sprocket, speedo-healer, and they are using mr9 race fuel. I've had mixed results with mr9.

I'm thinking i might go to the texas mile in october.. But i don't have a steering stabilizer and the bike isn't safety wired. So i'd kinda be SOL

Slow I don't know if Lie2Me has moved to Lawton yet. But I would bet he could talk you through, or actually help you out, with what you'd need to run the Texas Mile. I know he went before he was deployed last year. I also know he was wanting to get with folks about Thunder Valley. Might work out good for both of you?

When you get up around a true 180 you start to realize that things are really out of your hands.....if an animal runs out in front of you you're dead, a birdstrike and you're dead (have had a close one), a mechanical/tire failure and you're dead etc. Not trying to be negative...those are just the thoughts and reasons that keep me from maxxing out my bikes on the street. I'd have NO problems going as fast as the bike wanted on a nice controlled LSR event track tho

With all the mods you could add what ever they are, most builders forget the most importnt mod of all TIRES remember that most tires that you see or that are stocked at your local dealer are Z rated Which are like 149 plus rated mostly because the tire GODS didnt think in 1990 we would needed tires that would go above that and how far above that is that tire cpable of going we don't know Thats why they started to make tires with the W like 168 and the Y like 186 ratings for vehicles that have really high speed capabilities. So in short don't for get this when you try to go 200 as well as correct tire pressures and wheel balancing ...xxx's

he's right. remember at 50mph it takes about 80 feet to stop; at 100mph it takes 320 feet to stop; at 200 mph 1240 feet. and that is after you react. Brake just a little too hard and thats all folks. That is 5 and a half football fields to stop with reaction time included, or more than a 1/4 of a mile from the time you see the deer or truck to when you can stop. Do you really want to try this on the street. make a weekend of it and go to a dragstrip or track and you will still be riding when your hair is grey like mine.

I have a buddy (THE MAN)that went to the TX mile on a 08 Gixxer 1000, full Yoshy exahust, quickshifter, PCV, stock everything else, pulled the mirrors and ran 195mph. He's a light(160lb) MF'er, lol. He said 14s and Busas were hitting the 200 mark no problem that day...the next day the wind shifted and nobody could hit it. So I guess it just depends on the day :)

Side note: We did a 60 to 180 roll-on at a "controlled environment" He ran the setup he had at the Mile, I'm 240lb, +1 in the front, full Yoshy exahust, PCIII and we were dead even up to 170 then I slooooooowly started pulling on him. We both agreed that if I had stock gearing I would have ran away.
