Messing around with my GoPro
01/17/16 12:11 PM

Got a GoPro Session for Christmas and just been testing mounts, resolutions, fps, editing
software, Audio, bitrates, youtube, etc.

This mount is working pretty good, found another use for the vents in the windshield.
Very solid, but still a little shaking in the film.

Got a track day next weekend and just trying to figure best
settings vs file size, etc. Feel free to jump in with any suggestions.

Made a little clip on the way home from work yesterday just to mess
with it, nothing crazy. It may be 3 minutes of your life wasted if you watch it.

Nice stable vid.You should be able to get 1080P...30 fps on that camera with a 17+minute clip time.Unless that session cam has totally different film options. You won't need 60 fps option unless you're going for slow mo at editing.60 fps will probably drop the length time some.On that vid on youtube,it allowed 720HD...It started in 480 didn't it?I guess you had it in 720 then? That was the settings option on youtube.1080 will give a crisper film.(HD).

Kofla,

Yes, I guess you caught that, my office is on Deer Valley rd. right across from Deer Valley Airport.
I live about 15 minutes north from there towards Cave Creek. Makes a nice daily commute.
Looks like you've definitely figured out a few mounts. I'll prob put a base on for the helmet
mount and at least try it. I would think helmet mount would be the best for stability of image.
The session pretty small so won't stand out that much, hmmmm.... side of helmet or top of helmet.

Grn14,
I experimented with both 1080p/30fps and 720p/60fps - either of those have aprox same
file sizes for recording time. I just settled at the 720p/60fps per second because I thought
60fps would keep the image sharper during motion and 1080p/60fps gets to big.

Now I'll have to go back and experiment again at 1080p/30fps

Recording time for either format above will be in excess of 2.5 hours with a 32g card.
I'm coming up with 2gigs per 10 minutes, same with either.

The session goes up to 1440p.

Here's what I came up with for the zx10 for track day, $15,2" tall and very solid.

Here's a vid from a track day a couple of weekends ago.

Came out pretty good. Nothing fancy.

Hardest part is trying to edit down several hours of video.

Ended up going with 1080p/60fps. Audio track 48kHz recorded with external
mike on my android phone

It's great having video.
