undertail/mudflap removal?
01/14/15 4:45 PM

Has anyone ever removed the stock undertail?

I am removing the tail subframe and it looks like the whole undertail has to come off to get the front bolts out. I am very dismayed. I thought that tight spot between the subframe and the undertail presented a great opportunity to use my new gearwrench. Now the gearwrench is trapped because the bolt is threaded out until the head butted up to the undertail. My gearwrench has a one way ratchet. I would have to take the gearwrench off and turn it over to turn the bolt back in, but as I mentioned, now the gearwrench can't come off. I'ts just hanging there trapped.

So I need to take the whole %$$(& undertail off? ... or maybe just the front fasteners under the fuel tank? ...or will that under tail flex enough to thread the bolt all the way out? No way, the edge of the undertail is ribbed there for extra ridgity.

This is not the gearwrench but you can see what I mean. Shoulda stuck with the open end. I'm screwed.

Aaarrrgh! I feel for you Rook. Almost done the same thing a few times now. Hacksaw? Or maybe sledgehammer. It won't fix the problem, but it will make you feel better.

Actually, a hacksaw and a pair of pliers would do the trick but by the time I got that all done, I might as well have taken off the mudflap. The weather has warmed up which makes this a whole lot less of a PITA. Hope it stays above freezing a few days.
