bought a lowered ZX14
04/23/10 4:07 PM

Hey I must admit I bought this without crawling under it to see the links- but it has a set of roaring toyz on it- in the middle hole- which I assume is a inch or inch and a half drop. What are the problems with this mod- especially for sport riding. Should I just immediatly remove them? The bike doesn`t seem to corner real well- but the front tire is a little beat- and I am used to ZX6R and Ducati 916s as reffrence. I am a light weight 140lbs- so I doubt I will be bttoming out- but I want the bike to "perform as intended". Thank you in advance- and I will continue searching as I await responses.

lowered is ok but if it dont have an adjustable kickstand you may wanna get one so the bike isnt standing straight up otherwise you have to be very careful on where you park.

I think the reason I didn`t notice the lowering kit- is the fact I have a 07 ZX6R that stands up almost in riding position when parked! The 14 actually leans more like it should than the 6 does. One of the reasons for the 14 is to have a bike that isn`t so light and upright on the kickstand to be a blow over risk-or have a self retracting kickstand that does the same thing...........

Cornering won't be as good as the 6 no matter what you do. If JUST the rear is lowered, it will handle like crap. If the front and back are lowered near equally, it will handle just fine.

You don't have to rush out and get rid of the lowering links either. You can simply put them in the first hole, which is stock ride height

Yeah I need to break out the tape measure and see what the front hight is set at. Of course I will also need to find out what its supposed to be! I understand the 6 and 14 are for diffrent things- I have had a lot of bikes over the years starting with a H1. The 14 really doesn`t corner any better than my royal star though- so I think something is up.

I think it depends on the type of riding you do with the 14. If you carve the canyons all day you might want to go back to stock but if you just drive around on normal roads with occasional twisties rear only is no problem. High speed with only the rear lowered is still no problem. I've had mine past 195 gps with just the rear lowered and it was rock steady.

I am not good with the pix thing! will try though. Am more used to bike- so handling has improved- but the stock ride hieght will be restored. I personally have to go with the factory specs so I have everything available to me if needed. I do like the feel of it low- and the way it hooks up- but a inch higer rear wont affect that as much as it will help the turn in and ground clearence. I live in illinois- so there are not many curves-but they are often high speed and not good for testing suspension travel and geometry.
