3000 miles
05/08/12 11:44 AM

Well just went over 3000 miles yesterday. Heres the deal.

1. Bike is tighter than 2011. I seldom have to tighten up much.
2. Best mileage on 1 tank so far. 186 miles on 5.7 gallons right to the brim on refill. Riding was spirited and a quarter of that was riding a passenger.
3. Paint is holding up well. Afew scratches on front but nothing major. Rims and tires are holding up well.
4. No leaks of any kind.
5. 3rd gear is just insane when WOT from 40mph. The pull actually makes me feel like Im gonna piss my pants.
6. Alot of folks love the green. Alot of thumbs up at the lights.
7. Ive been running with the cans off again and see no difference in lowend or highend performance. Just louder.
8. This has to be the best bike Ive owned. Im not using 1/2 potentional of this thing.

So thats about it. The green sticks out, but man does it look good. At the shop we have 1 blue left on the floor with another green on the way? Ill believe it when I see it.

I have no plans on modding this bike. No PC or pipe. Its too much as is for me and with that said the only thing I do is wash her, pm her and then remove the cans from time to time. 20min process if that. Its loud but still havent gotten pulled over yet. Either way its nice to go loud and when it becomes too much throw them back on and its nice and quiet.

Creeps.

Dam i cant get near 186 miles per tank, guess i drive to rough. But yeah the bike is amazing, but for some reason 3rd gear always feels really slow for me like it takes forever to build up the rpms were as In 2nd its just nuts. this is the first bike that 3rd gear isnt my favorite. And i have full exhaust and tune and gearing

So Creeps...I'm assuming yer lovin yer new spaceship?I'm right up on ya my man....2900+ miles.New Angel ST's front and back....Metzlers ran outta gas a tad while ago.Yup...gotta agree with ya...no mods for mine now either...took everything off....except for the ECU...flashed...Guhl.Nice 'small' performance lift...but even without it...she'd STILL be a joy and PLENTY enough for my wants.Now...what to do with the PCV and Brock's system?I just can't really see putting it all back on....no needLOL!It WAS a nice little experiment though....first bike I ever had with a full system and matching map.

I like her the way she is....mellow sounding(except on liftoff and such)...and smooth as glass in every gear and speed.I'm only wearing earplugs for the helmet wind noise.I love the 'quiet' sound while rollin into the next set of sweeps, and NOT gettin those folks pissed at me..."here comes that friggin Green Bastard...Ma...get yer shotgun!"Lots of those cool people out here....I don't intend to make any enemies.Hell...they MUST know 'the Green Beast' by now.I always wave to em along the way...they always wave back.Course..I don't go rippin by their homes at 130 either.EVER.65,70...tops.

I'm pullin down from regular mild cruise...50+ mpg.....semi spirited...well,not so good...33mpg/...but that definitely goes back up as soon as I get back in ECO mode....sweet bike...love the dash and stuff.I haven't even put my baby in 'L" mode yet.I wonder what kind of mileage she'd get just ridin like that?Might be REALLY surprised!50 aint too bad.My 07 NEVER even approached 50 mpg...no matter HOW I rode.

Hi guys,

I'm only at 2000 miles on the R. Regularly get 32 mpg; never been in L, wonder what it might do to mileage too; Metzlers look to have about half tread left, don't do burn outs and don't do much expressway riding; M 5's seem to loose grip when you get over into the elephants on the rear under power; wondering if Pirelli's or Pilot 3's might be a better choice for edge grip and longevity? How long have you had the Angel's on Grn? How much tread left on your Metzler's, Creepy?

Third is my favorite gear; I'm not in second under near full throttle long enuff to get to know it very well, but third will widen my eyes, shrink distance and time parameters and often enough cause braking near the limit of traction to avoid the back end of Vettes, Hardleys, and other roadblocks becoming bonded to the air intake!

Heh, heh, heh. Me encanta!

I'm way behind you guys, just around 1060 miles so far. I really like the bike with the exception of the peg position which I bitch about at every available opportunity :)

Would like to get some Apex risers too, but that will wait.

Power, brakes, suspension are all insanely good. I went WOT from 70 to 160 once in 6th gear and just couldn't believe how quick it did it w/out a downshift.

Best tank for me was 206 miles, worked out to around 42 or 43 mpg IIRC. Worst so far was 35 or so. Pretty darn good in my opinion.

My center stand is in, and my grab bar arrived today.

You guys shredding your rear tires any more than expected? By that I mean, any different than any other heavy hyperbike?

Well...it's very hard to say Auron....the factory tires they install are 'supposed' to be 'different'(cheaper?)IDK.I'm going 'kinda' easy on my new Angels...Iwant to compare just as you asked..."more wear with THIS bike?".It's too early to tell right now.My Metzlers got 2200 outta the rear...and my front was 'still' usable...but squaring of on the sides fast.I did not baby those tires. So we'll see.I'm hoping anyway.I do think the KTRC and slipper are going to be a help in less tire wear...plus the shifting quality doesn't hurt either!

@ Paul...MAYBE around 800 or so miles?

6228 today. The M5's lasted 4952. I just fueled today and got almost 41 mpg. Usually add 5 gallons or less after 200 miles. I went to a 41 rear sprocket which leaves me showing 3 mph slow. At 60mph the radar shows 57. Went to a set of Michelin Pilot Road 3. Great tire but the jury is out on longevity. Stick well on wet roads.

As far as tires go on my 2011 with the Bridgestones I got 7500 miles before I changed to Mich's. Im pretty sure Im going to get at least another 1000 or more out of these Metz's the way I ride. I probably dont ride as aggressive as some of you and thats the big reason why Im getting the Mpg and the life out of my tires.

Short shifting isnt hurting one bit as my range is better than most with the same bike or older version. So with that said Metz tires are holding up well. 3000 on them right now and Im sure I can squeeze at least another 1000 or so out of them. The battleax's went 7500 miles I couldnt believe it. Anyways I try to save where I can and one of them is mileage and tires. Being an old truck driver thats where alot of use made alittle extra which was never that much. Mileage, tires and the good old boy cruise control...

Stay safe guys,

Creeps..

Okay...I've got the Angels on here...I've been staying right around 65-70 on the straights.Corners...ya...a tad faster. These Angels are supposed to get well into the 5K levels...even way higher I've read.Took the top honors for mileage on a C-14 at some 24 hr marathon. We'll see.I've used em several times before...the highest I got(on my 07)was 5600 rear. The front still had pretty okay tread. The sides however were starting to square off...I'm beginning to wonder...maybe it's the road surfaces here doing this?Gotta be.I can't possibly be riding so much different than you guys. Can I??????Sheesh.

I gotta say..that Bridgestone BT 003..now THAT's a sweet cornering tire there.Rook had em on his track day rides.Only problem....2600 miles...mine was gone. They're cheaper priced...but I was putting TWO for every ONE Pirelli change.I couldn't keep doing that. But for grip and rideabilty...those 003's are VERY hard to beat...VERY for a street tire.If you like riding at the edge...these are the ones to try.

I have about 1600 miles on mine so far, but the county has been oiling down the roads for 2 weeks to prep for new asphalt. I won't ride on that, because 1. it's a bit slippery (obviously) 2. I don't want that crap all over my bike. So, another couple days until I can ride again.

Back on topic, My best mileage so far was 43.1, and I average 36. I ride easy, cruise the back roads, and that's about it. I'm nowhere near the point of needing new tires, but I am interested in why Green's tires went so soon.

IDK either...I wasn't going koo koo.Spirited,natch...but koo koo...no.IMO anyway. No burnouts.Smooth takeoffs....smooth downshifts...smooth braking. They seemed like they were gonna go quite a while actually...but just as they began kinda gettin some wear down the center...they went very quickly after that.IDK if the rubber got hard, and ground off a lot easier or what.I don't think the chip seal they put over the nice smooth asphalt is a good thing for bike tires anyway.Wish they'd just leave well enough alone when they lay down new road.

OK, good info here. Sounds like the Metz M-5's are good for about 5K for most (exception: Montana road surfaces, heh).

I'm taking a trip West and they aren't gonna be good for whole trip, then, given the current 2k+ miles on em.

From what I read here, I've decided to put on some Mich Pilot Road 3's for the trip and more, then will finish out the M-5's when the Road 3's have spun their last. Pilot's are going for a discount right now and the pair can be had for a little over 300 bills, before any shipping and tax.

Hope the Road 3's are as good as people say; if so, they will make the trip that much more relaxed and enjoyable.

Thanks for the input!

What up, fellas? Been a while. I have about 5600 on mine. The M5s lasted 3030 miles. Now running 2CTs because my tire order got jacked up. Great profile and sticks like glue. Will see how long they last. I normally run 'Smarts or Road 2s depending on the price. Prefer the R2s for better life/flickability. I got 6K on the rear and 8K from the front on the 07 14.

I've been running it in L mode for a few weeks. No difference until you go over 7K rpms. Hell, the bike can cruise at 120 in 6th gear at 7K rpms. From what I read, L mode kicks out a max of 150 hp. Did an experiment last Saturday. Hit the twists with a friend on a CBR1000. Had it in L mode on the way up a road with triple digit sweeps and 5 long straights that allows us to top out. Stuck with him in the corners but the CBR slowly pulled away in the straights. The 14R was still hauling though. Put it in F mode when we doubled back. Fellas, I was playing with the CBR in the straights. There is a noticeable difference in F mode over 7K rpms. The 14R pulls like a muthaphucka. Gets to 185 in 5th and 6th gear sooooo fast it's scary. The CBR didn't have a chance and I was rolling on in 5th or 6th. The torque is insane. A freakin' rocket to the 10th power. I LOVE MY 14R. The fun factor is off the charts.

So, running it in L mode is still a lot of fun until you want to feel max power in long straights. I'm not sure about the diff in gas mileage but L mode does burn less gas over 7K rpms for sure. See that first hand. But I really don't pay much attention to it. Having fun is my main goal.

On the front...the sides of the rounded profile were 'flat'...meaning...there was a high tread in the center(comparatively speaking)..and the sides coming off the center were angled and not convex shaped like a new or okay tire.Sorry...no pics...next time. All my tires do that(the fronts) after the rear goes south...after a few K more miles.Normal as far as I know.Guess they start getting hard, and then cornering,it grinds the tread off faster than the center...??????
