My new lowered pegs.
05/26/11 7:35 PM

Ive read about doing the Buell pegs, and slitghly modifing them, but I saw these during a soft moment and ordered them. They showed up today, and wow, these things are thick, light, solid, and im very impressed. Put them on a little bit ago, havent ridden with them yet, but just sitting in the garage, the bike feels WAY more comfortable, im sure other people that have done 1inch drop pegs will agree. I guess if somebody else doesnt mind spending a little bit more than beull pegs, but wants a direct swap, these feel amazing so far. Going to ride to work tomorrow and get a better feel for them. Heres his link to the ones he just relisted.

They look good. How do they ride, what's breaking and shifting like?

Thanks,

I use the Buell Ulysses footpegs, which are long, wide, and 1-1/2 drop with almost no machining needed.

I had to lower the gear shifter and brake lever. At first I did 1 inch, since they are 1inch drop pegs, but that seemed way off, probably adjusted now around 1/2inch lower than stock. I was planning on using them today when I rode to work, but ended up calling in sick. So I havent ridden with them yet.

I know the Buell pegs are cheap, and require almost no work, but I found these during a ebay search, when I was bored and just trying to find something to spend money on. Im a sucker, what can I say. lol

The Buell Ulysses pegs are not cheap, they cost about $86 or lower if you spend enough time looking.

The other Buell pegs that aren't as sturdy, long, or wide, cost less but require more grinding to fit.

RE: My new lowered pegs.

Well, I still love them, but they are not for ALL occasions.

99% of the time, I love them. When Im going out, and plan on hitting the turns hard, I have to take them off.

3 things cause this. And if im going to Memphis, or Push Mt for the weekend, all 3 items are removed.

1) Im lowered 1inch
2) For daily riding, I soften up my suspension
3) 1inch drop pegs.

So for a random corner carving outing, quickest fix is stiffen up the suspension, and put the stock pegs on. I can do this in under 5 minutes, but raising the bike back to stock height takes about an hour, so I save that for weekend trips where its going to be a full weekend of aggressive riding, and not just commuting to work.

These 3 combined, means I can only do about 75% before im dragging shit. BUT like I said, 99% of the time, im fine, and LOVE them.

Other than the obvious change in leg position, the thing I love most about them is, since I am a bigger guy, with the drop pegs on the bike, I can actually tuck enough to look through my DB windscreen. When my legs are up higher, I can only get low enough to where im still looking over the screen. The top parts of my legs are pushing on my belly enough I cant full tuck, with the 1inch drop pegs, I can.

Kolk1 hey mate thanks for ya feedback mate, Iwent through ya Newbie Post again & thought you raised it back up to Stock Height ? fom the last post here you said it's Lowered 1" if thats so from what somone else said just taking the OEM rubber off and putting used grips on them would give ya 3/4" drop, that being the case then from your great photos the drop pegs should only be about 1/4" to 1/2" lower on the underside compared with the OEM pegs if that is so as mine is @ Stock Height + my settings are firm ! so thanks again as mine should be here early next week.

RE: My new lowered pegs.

I change it constantly. For daily riding(99% of the time), I have it lowered 1inch. I raise it back up when I go to Memphis, Push Mt, or other times when I have weekend of aggressive planned. Im over 300lbs, so I have it set up about as hard as it can be for these weekends as well. So for daily riding I soften it 3 clicks up front, and 3/4 of a turn on the rear.

I havent tried leaving the lowering pegs on, and raising the bike back up to stock height. If its just a normal weekend cruise with the guys, I just stiffen up the suspension, and put the stock pegs on since that takes less than 5 minutes, and leave it lowered. I just know that if I leave everything in cruise mode, and hit a turn pretty aggressively, even with getting all the way off the seat, and my toes up on the pegs, the sliders on my boots start dragging.

If this makes since:
Lowered, drop pegs, and soft suspension, can only do 75% before I drag.
Lowered, stock pegs, stiff suspension, I can do about 90% before I drag.
Stock height, stock pegs, stiff suspension, No problems.

I'm heavy too, Kolk1. The way my suspension is (stays that way), when I'm loaded with side cases and top case and seat bag and tank bag full, my foot will touch down (if I don't keep it tucked in) before my peg's hero bumps will. My Buell Ulysses pegs are about 1-1/2" dropped and 3/4" forward. They barely miss contact with my CT-Duals pipe.

Her suspension is performing admirably under all that weight.

When she is naked, besides being drop dead sexy (this is a motorcycle we are talking about?), I have never got my feet or pegs to touch down. Jumped a few train crossings slightly though, so she's too stiff naked. I'm lazy, I won't change it.

I made a slightly longer bracket that holds my exhaust to my passenger peg, so it dropped it down a little bit, My heel would BARLEY touch the exhaust in certain positions, and that bugged me. My exhaust was close enough to my peg I couldnt fit my pinky inbetween them. Now its dropped down about 1/2inch more than stock.

We solved it two different ways.

I put heat shields on the pipe under and behind the foot peg on each side.

I'm wondering, if I used your method, if I could actually mount full size Givi side cases, which would rock.

Of course, now that I've put AdMore LED lights in my PLX v35 side cases, I'll find out I can mount full size cases.

I let my heel sit on the exhaust for a good 10 minutes straight, and there were no marks, on my heel, or on the exhaust. I only lowered it, because it was annoying. lol

Hey guys, I picked up my new 14 yesterday. Only have 68 miles so far, because we're experiencing 110 degree heat down here in TX right now.

Anyway, I'm asking for some confirmation here, please. I've seen here and elsewhere that the Buell Ulysses pegs give 1.5" drop, and privateer mentions a 3/4" forward position shift, which would be an added bonus.

My question arises from another post, where a fellow said he measured the Buell pegs with his bike on the center stand, and the drop was only 7/8". His methods may have been flawed, as he was measuring from the top of the pegs to the floor, and an uneven/irregular floor may have been the cause of the difference.

Privateer, or someone else with the Ulysses pegs, can you confirm the 1.5" drop, please? I want the most I can get, and would buy the ones the OP listed if the Buell pegs only result in 7/8ths. I'm not a knee-dragger, and my bike will maintain stock height.

I already have a set of Genmar and Heli risers on the way to stack, and the pegs will be the final piece of the puzzle in making the bike more comfortable for my 58 year-old, 6'2" frame.

(Well, I can see a Connie seat trimmed to retain the rear cowl in my future as well...)

Thanks in advance

Here is the quote from another member that caused my confusion as to whether the Ulysses is worth a full 1.5 inches, or only 7/8"

"Just came home with a left Ully peg. The right side is on order. $39 bucks out the door for the pair....

Drilled and installed the left peg to test. As everyone has said, HUGE difference.

I also measured from the end of the stock peg (took into account the slight lip at the end) to the garage floor with the bike on the center stand. 16" from the top of the peg to the floor stock. 15 1/8" to the floor (measured at about the middle of the peg since they slope forward a bit) with the Ully peg. Doesn't sound like much but it felt like a a lot more than what it is sitting there with one foot 7/8" higher than the other."

Hope someone can shed some light on this..my risers are on the way, and will have to order the pegs any way I go.

Thanks
