Good to know you're all pullin for me on this. I'm in it about a hundred bucks now and hoping I don't screw it up.

Yeah, mad the busa is always feeling left out. poor thing, I don't even have any new mods planned for her except those I bought 3 years ago and have not installed yet. Meanwhile, I'm already thinking about the 14's NOS setup and PCVentilation mod.

cuttn chips ...

Yep, rudy, there will be slivers of metal but as you know, the part is not on the bike. I will be taping or plugging all the ports on the cube so nothing can get in.

To date I have purchased:
Acuity oil cube---------$40
Adjustable 1/8" bspt die $45
Die handle--------------$10
several 1/8 npt brass fittings about $30

So I'm about to cut the threads down on the Acuity oil cube today and I'm interlocking the threads side by side counting the threads on each when it suddenly hits me, "what if the threads on the switch are in fact 1/8 npt and not bspt?" Nothing says it has to be BSPT...the BSPT fitting doesn't go in the hole any better than the npt fittings I have tried.

I took this picture as a "before" shot and I noticed something that had escaped me up until now. The oil cube threads are not shaped like the switch threads. Even though the two mesh together, I see they don't interlock as well as the oil cube threads do with an NPT fitting. The switch threads are sharp and the oil cube threads are rounded. I went and bought the fitting and the horrendously overpriced die for nothing. Now I gotta buy a sensor adapter that has a 1/8 NPT male and a die to cut IT down! another $50. I don't even know if an adjustable die will close enough to get the threads to the proper diameter to go in the hole.

When I get this done, I hope it saves someone a lot of time and money. It sure is costing me. You'd think someone would have posted more info about this somewhere.

I could get a bspt to npt adapter and chase the npt end. Not going with brass. SS is about $23. The whole thing will stick forward and inch more right in view through the vent hole in the fairing.

I could use a 1/8 npt adjustable die on the oil cube threads to cut them into NPT but if it can't be cut deep enough, it will leak.

Might as well start all over. Another T, another $40. Fortunately 1/8 NPT dies are easy to find. Another week. Glad I'm still working.

This is exactly what I did. I have cut the BSPT threads on the oil cube into NPT threads which is the proper thread for the oil switch boss. There is plenty of meat on the oil cube male fitting to completely transform the BSPT into NPT and fortunately, you need to remove pretty much metal anyway because the damn oil switch boss hole is so damn small.

I did a pre-fit to the boss and the oil cube now threads in 1/2 turn before I feel resistance! The OEM switch threads in 2 turns before I feel resistance so that means I need to run that adjustable 1/8 NPT die over the male fitting on the cube a few more times. This was not so complicated. The problem was knowing the right info. Thanks for all the thought provoking pointers that sent in the right direction. It looks like this is going to work after a month of wracking my brain.
Shoot, this is not hard at all.

There's going to be a tutorial for anyone who wants to do oil gauges on the ZX-14. I can't believe there isn't one out there online yet. Hardly any ZX-14 specific info at all.

So here's how it finally turned out. I worked the 1/8" NPT die down to minimum diameter and now the BPST threads have been converted to the same TPI and pitch as NPT. Fits like OEM. Hope it seals like OEM and hope there are no problems with cracking. I doubt cracking will be an issue but where the root of the first threads are, the pipe wall will be pretty much thinner....and this thing supports some weight.

Almost there boys!
