I don't know why, but the insurance on my 2017 ZX14R is more than both my wife's and my new vehicle together. Any tips on how to beat the high rates. (great driving record).

Drop collision. I never carry collision on bikes, cost to much. But if you have a loan
you will be required to carry collision. Rates are high because it's a "super sport"
1400 cc bike.one of the fastest "race" bikes made.
Liability 250/500, comp. Fire, theft, damage, roadside, etc. $240 a year with
progressive on my '12
Other then that get some quotes from other companies, collision alone may
vary from $600 to $2000 a year. Some companies just dont want to insure
them.
If you live in snowy area you should be able to drop coverage until
like April and get winter storage rate at much lower cost. Most companies
have winter storage rates.

Hopefully you shopped around. When I got my '06 I thought my home/auto/life Travelers discount would be a good way to go - NFW, they wanted ~$2500/yr. I've been riding a long time and have a clean record. I shopped around and ended up with GEICO at about $350/yr. When I crashed they gave me more than I could have sold the bike for so I bought the new 2014 BBW. Even with the crash, but still a clean record, its only $600/yr. Wife and I have scooters for weekend garage sales and lunch at the beach and GEICO was stupid expensive, like $350/yr each so I looked around and Progressive was $100/yr. And I do carry collision and have high coverage limits on all car and auto.
