Muzzy M10 / Power Commander , Install
03/22/09 9:24 PM

I got the new Muzzy M10 system the other day from Star-Cycle , and the Dyno-Jet PC 3 USB , Muzzy fan , and lowering link should be here this week , so it`s time to get back to work . My question is - Where is the best place to mount the Power Commander . I`ve seem them zip-tied to the air tubes , but it seems like the best place would be under the seat where the owners manual fits , so it`s easy to get at for adjustment`s or what-ever . Does the PC need a little air flow around it to keep from getting too hot ? I`ve already got the fly`s out so I have had the tank off this past Winter . Somebody wrote that getting the wiring all hooked-up , or maybe it was routeing the wires is somewhat less than easy . The PC will come with the Muzzy map installed and I like to get this installation right the first time . What say you ? - - - The header install looks pretty straight forward . I`ve already got the stock system and radiator off to give me plenty of working room . The radiator would have had to come out to do the fan upgrade anyway . Is there anything I should do thats` not in the instuctions ? Thanks - - Underdog427

Finally got around to working on the bike a little this evening . I found that if you slide the muffler part on too far that the header pipes want to almost touch the oil pan of the engine , when you begin to snug up the 8 header nuts NOT GOOD . Very Hot . So I moved the muffler back about a half inch or so and had what seems to be enough clearance . When I tighten everything up tomorrow , I`ll know for sure . The other stuff supposed to have been shipped today . It`s going to rain off an on all week here in Ohio , so the wait is OK . I just bought a new 2007 Star (Yamaha) Stratoliner S for the significant female unit & I to cruise on . Keeping that 800 LB. monster cleaned up might be a full time job . There`s always something that needs done so waiting on the UPS guy is no big deal . The install is going well so far though . Thanks .

I believe that the newest PC V (5) is for bikes newer than my 07 . You would just have to go to the Dyno-Jet web site to check out what is available for your model . The Muzzy people could probabley tell you what would work too . - - - i got the new M10 all tightened up this evening and even after adjusting the length and adding a washer or 2 to the rear hanger (to add clearance the lower fairing) , The header only clears the bottom of the motor by about a sixteenth of an inch , maybe less . Is that enough to prevent a lot of heat transfer to the oil ? The thing looks great though .

This is going to be like an oil or tire controversy is the electrics are the same old tire/oil wear posts.

I have 4 wires that close the loop as my negative and positive wires complete the millisecond maker called a piggy. If I run a pot off a circuit board, it is to hold the fuel open for so much window of capture of said time is use a platform called software communications in the generic.

Ask yourself in a way like this; is if I know I have a set of points and advancer of old: Do I see they are just lock open and return to idle following a points ramp on it's cam advancer assembly and spring weight action? So, electrically, is not the piggy PC just a fuel timer?

I mean, to make the fuel injector run a touch richer is to keep the plunger open longer is one way. Another way would be to keep that same stock unaltered millisecond of an opening, but this time, you simply push a higher fuel pump pressure at it. This is more a slight tuning window you could apply to the stock parts of the bike.

We now look at our wire harness and use a year of 1999, where the Hayabusa wire harness is the same wire harness as a 2009 Kawi 14. The basic generics have not changed as in your basic plot of injecting fuel. No tricks to confuse you. You still have 4 injectors using the same old 0 to 5v signals to sensors to ECU. We live in that vacuum called 14.7 and those sensors have to follow that absolute till you take your last breath > It will not change or you die any other breath of the pounds per square inch of plant life. Where a leaf does not live in a normal 8 pound vacuum is see if you can install seed and cow 'me new ear' you were getting hear her to the punch line.

Throw me the cut box is she has 6 wires at least? OK, does the system use 4 injectors? OK, that takes care of 4 wires. I know the other 2 have to hot the box for it needs a source of power to work on it's own like a sensor needs to push a number to equal a pressure needed. So, that number amounts to using a pot to twist some rheostat like a throttle position sensor is that rheostat ride up the wire wind > Held the injector open longer.

Well, looks like my parts have yet to change as in open loop? Oh, does it read something like it will only map in closed loop? Are we still at that point of opening that fuel to air ratio at a specific time frame? How many wires are there with the PC5? I can tell you with the Tfi; I have enough of the correct wires to connect right up to a 2009 14, then take the same unit and install the same unit all the way down to a 1999 Busa. If the same old PC3 has the same part number for a 1999 as it does for the 2008 say that part has not changed; WATT does that tell you about taking that PC5 and retro fit that to the same 9 years past are the same 4 cylinders and the same 0 to 5v communication signal.

So, for sure the Tfi is a given. She fits any '4' injectors. There is no software but a way to tone the injector via a rheostat signal is remap the ECM to read this ping is just a signal in electrical pressure called 10ths of volts. There were no maps for bikes until some were made. You do not need a map for Tfi is seat of the pants it falls on it's face too rich.

You place the same voltage map layer is change the volt values to read so much open or so much close is rich or lean a map. Does the PC5 have 4 extra wires? You see 8 injector wires and now WATT? I am not going to say it will not work. I have not wired it up on my bike to know this. But say something is going to be open is short 4 wires no matter how you look at it. You are shorting out that injector for a few mill's.

I'm not sure what's happening on your bike but I had more clearance than just a few mm. I think I had around 10mm which wasn't a lot but the bike seemed to run quite cool. Cooler than at any other time, so I guess 10mm was plenty of clearance. My M10 fitted up without any issues, so I hope yours works out OK. Pic below mightn't help much but it does show the M10 fitted up.

I zip tied my PCIII to the air tube up front as trying to get the wiring through under the seat was just a bitch. Just disconnecting the original harness connector was enough to give me the proverbials. One thing I did do though was to put the PCIII in a plastic bag and place the open end of the bag at the lowest position. I didn't want to have condensation in the bag but I didn't want water getting on it if it rained, so I left one end of the bag open. No problems so far but I haven't ridden in the rain since then.

I`ve finally gotten around to working on the 14 some more . I decided to mount the PC on the air tube . I used 1 zip-tie on each end , through the small loops & then one slightly larger zip-tie around the air-tube on each end . The unit is very secure without putting any direct pressure on the PC itself . I`m also adding a small piece of foam between the headlight plug & the corner of the PC just to make sure they don`t contact each other after things are all sealed-up and back together again . The clearance between the header pipe & the motor is close but normal according to the Muzzy tech. I spoke with . The MUZZY Lowering Link went on without a hitch . It`s set in the middle hole (1 & a half inch down) . I`ll hang the radiator with the new MUZZY aluminum fan on tomorrow , and start getting some of the bodywork back on . One last thing about the M 10 header . I`m going to slot the belly fairing mounting arm to allow a little ajustment for clearance between the collector & the belly fairing bodywork . I just don`t want to scorch the paint when it`s really hot later this year . It`s in the 20`s here right now so riding season is on hold again . It might get up to 48 tomorrow . Later
