Hello Everyone,
Quick summary, I successfully built a Lotus 7 track toy (Kit car) with a Gen2. Motor is turned 90deg and basically a mid/rear mount driving directly into a Subaru r160 diff.
The car ran great last year while still NA but the TURBO bug bit and I landed up doing my own DIY TURBO with a Garret GT30.
Basic specs:
Stock Motor
Upgraded HD valve springs
Upgraded oil pump cover and hi flow pump gear
Trac King clutch
HD clutch springs
Adams oil pan
Garret GT30
TIAL external waste gate (38mm)
1000cc bosch injectors on e50
Top mount Air to Air Intercooler
Motec M84 (yeah its old tech)
I only ran 5 pounds of boost to keep things "safe" and I live at 4500 feet above sea level so the boost is very conservative.
Anyways entered the the first race meet in March and blitzed the field in the first session...
But unfortunately on the first lap on the second session #3 conrod let go...
In order not to start a HUGE debate Im not to concerned about discussing why my motor blew, the reality is that my setup is very different to most :)
I am looking at the following solutions for my car:
Additional oil return from the head to the oil pan to get the oil back to the sump
Restrict the oil flow to the head
Possibly go DRY SUMP
What i would like to understand is what other preventative measures are there for the ZX14R #3 oiling issue?
Im looking for info specific to the crank, casing and bearings?
Thanks in advance
