Soft pannier attachment
04/21/16 4:46 AM

The good lady & myself are planning a couple of weeks away on the 14 & ive been looking into luggage options. Wanted light weight but with capacity. Decided on the 30 litre per side Ventura bags. They come with Velcro over seat straps, no problem & nylon D rings for attatchment to suitable spots. After stuffing around with the webbing / buckle attachment straps I thought there's got to be a quicker easier answer ? There is, the front D loop on the bags lines up perfectly with the pop out tie down hidden under the 14,s seat, then, to pull the bags rear wards, how cheap & strong are cable ties ? Just cut off & replace each day at the motel. To pull the bags down & back, there going NOWHERE.
GTR 14 with grunt.

That's similar to the rig I use. A word of caution though... if you have loaded bags hanging off the rear
bodywork it can crack the rear bodywork mounts. Mine did. I switched to the Twisted Throttle Blaze system which
uses a support bar to take the weight off the panels.

Good point Mad, I forgot to add, I've installed a set of these Givi pannier mounts for the soft bags to sit against & hold them off the bodywork. Their light weight & attatch quickly. Frames & bags together around $300 Aus or $200 US, I intend a couple of test rides before committing to the 2 weeks away, but this set up Is very solidly attached, off the bodywork, light weight & relativly slim on the bike compaired to the admittedly better looking but exxy hard bags.
Just another option. They won't be on the bike very often any who.

I assume you'll be riding two up. If so, is your lady's booty gonna mind sitting on those straps? Might not be bad, can't really tell ... without an hours-long sit on them.

Looking good.

Get her an Airhawk and she'll never even notice the straps.

Another thing you might consider is some re-usable plastic-coated twist ties. They come in various sizes and colors and survive multiple uses. I was using a zip-tie to tie up the wire on my hitch receiver light and every time I needed to remove it to use the hitch, it was cut-and-replace. Now that I'm using the coated twist tie, one has lasted over a year, and it's more easily removed and replaced than a zip tie.

My wife sat on the straps for 1500 miles to Oregon and back, said it was no problem at all.

Never too old to learn things, 55 by the way, I didn't realise that there are re usable cable ties, release their grip, take off, use again, no wastage, perfect. In black to match the bike.
