Missing a sleeve?
08/14/18 6:37 AM

I'm undecided if I'm missing a part or not. Is this circled part pressed into the hub? I can't tell if this circled part is in there or not. The bike was missing the spacer between the three swing arm on the chain side so it wouldn't surprise me if someone left this out as well.

Partszilla, cheapcycleparts will have a parts blowout of the wheel parts. Match the parts on the page.

No idea why it didn't keep the pictures. The inner part of the hub and the outer part of the wheel don't seem to be touching at all

I can't tell if this circled part is in there or not.

It looks like your collar is in. It should almost fall out. It's only stuck by grease.

Steps 10-15 here:

If that part is in there then it's not coming out with my hydraulic shop press. Pictures I found don't look like it's in there. The part is cheap so I'll just order it and see.

Okay...maybe I'm not 'getting' these pics. But Where are the BEARINGS????Gotta say here...that whole inner part of the unit looks fused. That collar(if that's what that is)should NOT be sitting on there like that. That should fall right out when the axle is removed.Something doesn't look right. What's that greyish stuff inside that hole where the grooves are at?

42036 is the spacer. But those bearings SHOULD NOT be 'coming out'.They should be snugged in that recess.Did you remove the bearings?

The collar should stay in if the axle is removed but if the sprocket carrier is pulled out, then the collar should fall out easily. I believe mine stuck from grease and that was it. If you can't remove it with a press, it's welded itself somehow. I assumed you removed the outer bearings from the sprocket carrier. There should be a bearing in the sprocket carrier and also a bearing in the wheel hub. The spacer is sandwhiched between the inner and outer bearings.

Look at my pics. The collar is a straight shot all the way though. Flat inner walls. Yours has a flange all around the inside.

WAIT---that's because that is not the collar! That's your wheel! Look at the parts diagram. that is a part of the wheel sticking out at the hub of the wheel. There should be a bearing in that.

The collar you have circled in the diagram goes on top of the inner bearing that should have been in there. The outer bearings go against the other side of the collar.

You must have taken the bearings out. No way you could have run it with no bearings in the rear wheel.

I'm undecided if I'm missing a part or not. Is this circled part pressed into the hub?

No. It sits loose in the sprocket carrier.

I can't tell if this circled part is in there or not.

No it isn't. The collar is smaller than that protruding cylinder on the wheel hub.

The bike was missing the spacer between the three swing arm on the chain side so it wouldn't surprise me if someone left this out as well.

Yes. If there is no collar like what is shown in my pics, it was running without.

Bought the bike a year and only put about 500 easy miles on it before I noticed the popping sound, got home and looked it over and discovered a bunch of metal shavings on the wheel and chain. Bearings completely gave out in the carrier and on the chain side. Thought it might have just gotten stuck in there from shavings. Reviewed the pictures and I understand what you were saying about the collar fitting into the bearing.

I guess we know what the collar is for. Good thing you got ine on the way. The wheel itself doesn't look damaged. Maybe a little scuffed. Mine looks pretty shiny in my pics but I can't see that yours has worn severly.

Well it's back together and been in a few short rides. So much quieter now and yes it was missing both pieces, and I had to pull the seeing arm open to get everything in correctly from it being compressed. I'm so pissed at whomever did this work.
