Just out of curiosity do you have any stop off you particuarly go? Somewhere the same people are at? Cuase if not you have the single worst tire luck I've ever heard of. Close to 40k miles on bikes and never had a puncture! Close to 40k on my trucks tires never had a puncture (although my last set was brutalized...but I do feel like someone was doing it).

at least you had the right kind of bad luck. The time I picked up a nail, I went off the road into the dirt. Fortunately no curb and I didn't crash.

I know someone who dropped his bike and dropped it again just as he finished fixing it.

I was going to suggest plugging it just in case this happens a third time.

I would save the tires and plug them in case you need a spare in the future.

I'm going to tell you right now be sure to check around your bike before you leave work. That's how I think my trucks tires ended up with about 3 nails in each of them.

Man, I've had bad luck but that is BAD LUCK! I guess you're aware of the various repair kits available but I always carry on of these..Repair Kit..just in case. Only used it once several years ago and the seal was perfect. All kits will carry disclaimers regarding speed rating and "temp repair only" etc but I left mine in for the remaining life of the tyre, around 2000 miles and had no issues. If the nail has left a neat hole and not a tear then, IMO this type of repair is about as good as it gets without a vulcanised patch inside (which many tyre shops won't do anymore) or replacing the tyre. I guess it comes down to what you'd be comfortable with be it repair or replace. JMO

have been using similar kits, with gas cartridges, etc...
but it is the first time i see a kit with plugging inserts that really look like plugs... the kits i have use plugging material that looks more like strips of chewing gum, that get folded when forced into the tire
... am wondering Pegscraper, how do you fit these plugs?

The plug fits in the special tool that compresses it down small enough to push through the hole. The routine is.......

1..Remove nail etc.

2. Ream out the hole with reaming tool supplied.

3. Fit plug into spacial probe tool, push through hole, then unscrew the end of the tool which realises the plug inside the tyre and the mushroom head expands. Then pull out the probe tool leaving the stalk of the plug sticking out which you just trim off with the blade supplied.

There's no adhesive in the kit as non is required. In fact the plugs came coated in a silicone type lube. One of the best and easiest kits to use that I've come across.

thanks for this!
i may get one of these kits too... kind of like the concept... seems easier to insert the compressed plug, instead of having to force the double strip of hard chewing gum

It probably is coincidence. I suppose it can happen, the odds of picking up a nail in the tire must be in the 1000s. The odds of picking up 2 nails within 100 miles of replacing the tire back to back must be at lesat somewhere in the millions.

The following are not secrets
- There's a lot of people that don't like motorcycles.
- THere's more people that hate Jap bikes.
- There's people that have put things in roadways intent on causing harm to motocyclist.
- People in history, have purposely sabotaged people's tires.
- It's no secret you have the ability to yank people's chains.
- It's no secret where you park and I'm sure you're not in your office 24 hours a day.

Most likely it's just bad luck as they say. Hell I admit even myself literally dealing with 2-3 nails in each tire forgot daily to check my tires before pulling out. And yes I yanked a few chains from time to time.
