I'm thinking about getting a BMC or like oil/cotton gauze air filter. Is there any sensors post air filter that can accumulate oil.

The inlet air temp sensor is in the top of the air box right above the intake ducts and there are two throttle position sensors in the throttle bodies. I would not worry about them accumulating oil from an aftermarket air filter. A little oil isn't going to hurt the sensors. They often get misted with engine oil. The throttle sensors do for sure and the inlet air temp gets hit a little. The IAT sensor grommet had oil in it when I removed it.

If you're racing competitively, a race air filter might give a tiny bit more peak power but it's not worth the risk of letting dirt enter for sport riding on the street. I can't tell the dif.

really only benifit to a bmc or other race filte over stock unless your drag racing and don't have to worry as much about bugs and debris and such as you would in street ridding is that you can clean it and reuse it over stock filter once u remove the metal screen on the back of the stock filter. it flows about the same and has more protection

Having had a bad experience using an oiled cotton gauze filter on a Fireblade I wouldn't use one now to filter my coffee. Just not up to street riding with all the road crap that gets ingested IMO. Certainly, if you're running anything like a standard tune I would say the OEM filter is the bast call but then I don't mind paying out for one every few K's, just for peace of mind.

Good point, rudy. BMC race is .15 oz lighter but once you take the steel plate off the OEM, I'm sure the tables are dramatically turned. A Piper Cross probaly wins the weightloss battle hands down.
