I am going of my bikes MPG too and I to have the power problem if you want to call it that but as for your suspension Viper you need to set that up for your weight you will be amazed at how much easier she will turn in accelerate and handle its like night and day!

FYI: I reset the computer as i got on the freeway to work today. On the freeway i got 32 by the computer and in reality, i get about 28-29 on the freeway. The average mileage for my 7 mile trip from home ended at 27.2mpg when i got to work. About 50% highway and 50% city. Reality is about 23-24. I think i will try the stock air filter. Anyone have a good place to buy one inexpensively online?

Another update, once i got home from work, the mileage went down to 27.5 using the computer. I ordered the air filter from my dealer, but now I am not sure if i want the stocker for 40 bucks or go with a BMC filter. Does anyone know if the BMC is better for keeping the engine clean? I see almost everyone with a BMC filter, almost no one has a piper cross, and i think it is because it is for racing. It lets way too much air in and the bike has to compensate with much more fuel to use that air. That is my idea.

Update: Ok, now i am bummed. I was really thinking the air filter was the solution to all of my problems. Sadly it is not. I went out thusmorning and purchased a new stock air filter for 43 bucks. I then went and put it in. I just finished driving about 20 miles total of mixed highway and city and i have found that my mileage has not changed at all. When i got home my MPG on the computer was 28.4. DAMNIT!
What a waste of time and money. Anyways, i am really out of ideas. 28.4 is the same 24mpg real world mileage i am used to. My trip meter is at 64 miles and i am down 1/2 a tank.
This sucks.

ok first off i didn't read this whole thread lol and you may have addressed it somewhere but I think id start with changing the plugs. and when i had the stock gearing on i rarely ever saw 6th gear even at 70mph on the freeway.I don't know what gearing you are running but that will affect your milage also. Ill have to check my mileage next time out. I don't think that in 3 yrs I've ever checked it lol but of course I didn't buy the 14 for good gas mileage

Thanks for replying. Yeah, that was the first thing i did. The bike only had 10k when i got it, so it probably did not need them changed. I did not notice any difference with the new plugs. I know there has to be something that i am missing. I would have no problem if i was getting the fuel economy that it should be, 30ish around town and 35ish on the highway. 22/27 is not ok and means something is wrong.

The only other thing is that your PC map may be too rich in the rpm range you spend most of your time. I know mine is a bit rich by the carbon residue in the mufflers, but I am still averaging nearly 38 mpg, and I don't baby it. Consider getting a re-map to take the fat out of the middle. You only need to be running rich at higher rpm to keep the motor from getting too hot.
