A little tip on suspension
10/12/16 7:16 AM

He all I figured out this trick and I wanted to share. I have been on the struggle bus with my suspension ever since I started bolt on madness. First thing I took a 38lb loss according to the bathroom scale due to the titanium exhaust and I have been pulling un-necessary things off ever since. I would estimate that I have lost close to 50lbs on the bike maybe more at this point. Anyway, I tried sport rider settings, I tried settings that others on the forum run, adjusting to feel, etc etc. Basically I have been going in circles and getting no where fast. Suspension has been ok but not great. Nothing like my other bikes. I was about to give up and or consider ordering a full ohlins kit when I came up with this trick!

Disclamer - if this is a known trick I have never heard of it, and I came up with it all on my own. So to me this is the cats meow.

There is a little park by my house that has a long rectangle shaped parking lot. It has 3 speed bumps that span that distance. The other day I pulled in and the sun was shining at a 90 degree to the direction I was traveling over the bumps casting a perfect shadow of my bike as I drove. By going slowish over the speed bumps I watched both my front and rear suspension work and it was immediately obvious where my issue was. Screw suggested settings I was seeing it real time with full gear on! Front looked great, both compression stroke and rebound smooth and forgiving. The rear tire barely gave anything to compression and then suspended itself in mid air (compression too stiff and rebound too dampened). As drastic as this sounds, could not figure that out going down the road. I was using suggested compression or a little less and wearing the rebound knob out trying to make things happy. I immediately took half a turn out of compression, tested, then another half turn and like magic the shit is working great now. I still have maybe another visit to that parking lot and a few rides to get it perfect, but when you are at wits end with your suspension, its most likely because something is out of sync. This trick can help you figure it out.

I also lowered the bike a bit so that may be another reason for me needing 3/4 to a full turn out on compression from factory.
