Bought a used 08 gsxr 750
08/20/09 7:11 PM

She'll handle track day duties for me.
Bone stock with less than 1K miles... I finally own a black bike!
I've already bought a lot of aftermarket stuff for it- with a good tune
and the right exhaust these little bikes put upward of 130 rwhp.
To put it in perspective- that's what a stock 02 R1 puts down to the rear wheel...

Not much to look at but it's the nicest looking recent gsxr IMHO:

There's only one bike that owns the garage though...

Great choice.

To me, 750 is still the magic number, from the days I rode small cc bikes, 750 was the target. Suz is the lonely survivor in this class.

The gsxr 750 is a gsxr 600 cc that puts 25 more rwhp and is only 7-8 lbs heavier-
everything but the engine displacement is the same... well alsmost the same.
It has enough power for street riding and will turn circles around the zx14.
My local tracks (NH, NJ...) are slow with tight turns and all weaknesses of
the zx14 are exposed with very limited use of higher gears.
A 600cc would have been plenty powerfull but I still wanted to be able to do street riding
and have a decent back up for my zx14 without having to constantly keep it above 10K rpm.
The ergos of the gsxr are bad though- all gsxrs are cramped IMHO. I'm 6'1 and around
175 lbs. in shorts and the frame of this one is borderline too small for me.
For anyone taller/ heavier I would advice against it- there's nowhere to put it...

Will post a few pics with the aftermarket bolt-ons and race fairings soon.

Not much too look at --- what are you talking about?? I think the smaller bikes look a lot better than the literbikes which remind me of a square when I look at them from the side. I was admiring a 600 very similar to your new bike a couple months back. It was REALLY small but it must be a blast to ride. It's gotta be like you totally ARE the motorcycle when your riding one of those.

Looks are not all that important to me.
All I cared for is getting the best production 600 cc ever...

I also bought a Kendon stand-up trailer a few weeks ago for the gsxr.
My V-nose enclosed trailer is a little bit too big for a single bike.

I can still post around... I guess I'm fine.

The bike is being checked if the frame is still good and I ruined some of my
nicest riding gear and my newest X-11.

Track day?

Yes- I high sided exiting a turn in 2nd gear.
I was just pushing too hard and probably riding
too close to my limit.

Now I have a little winter project to wrench on.

That SUX. Glad you were doing your hardest riding in the safest possible place. High siding - that is scarey! The fall has got to be awfully hard and it looks like it is by the looks of that hand grip hanging down.

Well, I'm glad you are okay. No broken bones, I take it. Ever wipe out before? I think I've made a pledge to never wipe out and if I do, the bike gets junked. That is probably going to make me a puss on the track.

So, how are you doing today? How bad are you bumped up? Are you off of work?

Wow,I have not been 170 since high school. The worst thing is I was 6'2 now 6'1. 230lbs and growing outward. Congrats on the new apparel. Mass if you get a chance please post your findings on the x-12. Cheers

I escaped the crash absolutely injury free.

My worst injury was my left high ankle sprain from playing tennis
earlier this summer and I still do physical therapy for it 3 times
every week and walk around with a slight limp.

Work is a dirty word...

You must have some amazing reflexes. I'm sure you had some kind of warning like a tire sliding but the topple in the other direction must have been extremely abrupt.

You must have some amazing reflexes...

I ran a few laps and changed my rear wheel adding 2 teeth on the rear. Went from -1/+1 to -1/+3
to be able to utilize 2nd and 3rd gear a bit better.
It didn't have anything to with reflexes- the bike got completely sideways in a 2nd gear right hander
and I catapulted straight up and luckily landed without any major impact and slid off the track into
the gravel where I rolled a few times and put final touches into destroying all my riding gear.

Damn that sucks looks like you were lucky to walk away from that one. You think the -1/+3 gearing was a factor not much warning with a highside Rook it spins/snaps back and your flying

^^Yeah, I can imagine but I was thinking there would be no time to jump off or move your leg before the bike hit you. Sounds like it is more typical to get thrown off in a high side before the bike hits------- luckily-----lucky for your leg, anyway.

So... bought a complete swingarm, forks, triple tree assembly and damper, complete radiator,
clipons and controls, Spiegler front brake line, ram air ducts, aftermarket case covers and sliders for
both sides, front and rear complete wheels with brake rotors, cf gauge bracket stay and gauge cluster,
gauge harness, clear zero gravity screen, a few new Sharkskinz race fairing pieces , oem gas tank and
tank cover plastic for front and sides, oem subframe, seat...thank GOD for eBay!!!

And it only cost me $867 at GMD to correct all angular and lateral frame misalignments!

Who wants to be masszx14 when the amex statement comes around in a week?
