I'm BAAACK in the saddle again...

Well, its been 4 months and I decided it was time to get back on the horse and start riding again.
I didn't have explicit permission from my doctor, but what do they know ? I had a brand new front tire so Andy said we'd take it easy for around 10 miles. HAH!!! More like 10 FEET ! We rode about15 miles and stopped for coffee. I was feeling good so we continued on to Whiskeytown Lake and up to Lake Shasta Dam. It was awesome getting out on the bike again and looking forward to the next one.

Nice work Mad and good to see you healing up and back in the saddle again.
Motorbikes can be great therapy.
I know this for a fact.

One of the greatest things I have seen is years ago we were on a motorbike tour (I was on a Honda VFR800) through back country roads and towns in NSW Australia with a guy who at that time was considering buying one of the newly released Ducati Diavel's.
By chance there was a Diavel and Repsol Honda CBR 1000 parked outside a small cafe so we stopped to have a chat with the owners.

The Diavel owner was chatty about his new bike purchase but the Honda owner was quite a bit older, pretty quite, withdrawn and seemed to have a fair old nervous twitch.
After a while the Diavel owner said they had to make a move and it was then that I saw the Honda owner get up and walk to his bike with one of the worst shakes all over his body that I had ever seen.
I looked at the Diavel owner and asked what was happening.
He replied that his old friend had a serious case of Parkinson's disease that was worsening.
I said "And he's going to get on and ride a CBR 1000???"
The Diavel owner said "Go have a chat with him" which I reluctantly did.
The old chap explained that his shaking was always with him and unfortunately getting worse day by day.

However the moment he jumped onto his motorbike, the shaking stopped and he could ride as if he was completely normal without any sign of his worsening disease.
And getting onto and riding his motorbike was the only time this happened for him!

So I watched him mount the bike, miraculously instantly stop shaking, and ride away at quite a speed.
Who knows why this is so?
The human brain is a very complex and little understood operating system.

I only know it was one of the happiest and most amazing things I had seen because this gentleman afflicted with a horrible disease had found one thing that made him feel normal just for a little while...

I can completely relate to your story Yannih. Back when I was racing I had horrible allergies. In the pits I was constantly sneezing, eyes red and itching. I was miserable. But the moment I got on the bike and shut the visor....
ALL symptoms stopped until I was back in the pits. Apparently my brain could shut off my allergic reaction if
something more important was happening. Since I knew that, subconsciously, I was able to control my allergies,
I went to a psychotherapist and he did a procedure called " Anchoring". Today I have virtually no allergies.
