Rook
If I remove the two vent tubes at the back of the tank and the main fuel line with about 2.5 gals in the tank, will fuel gush out or trickel out those two vent tubes? Just wondering if I can just disconnect those two vent tubes w/o lossing alot of fuel before I disconnect the main fuel line? I would use a bucket to catch the remaining fuel in the tank.

no way will you need a bucket. there are one way valves on all the fuel hose connections at the tank. There will only be a small amount of fuel that runs out if any. The fuel delivery line will drip about an ouce. Any fuel that drips out will pool in the bottom of the under fuel tank compartment. There is even a little cup shape down there in the black tupperware. You'll see it. Just sop up any ddripped fuel. It will stop right away.

You can handle 2.5 gallons + the weight of the tank....That will be about 30 pounds, I am sure. The nipples on the back of the tank may drip a few drops and the fuel delivery pipe under the fuel pump will also drip a few drops while the tank is off the bike. Not bad but I sometimes wrap the tubes with plastic and rubber band them to hold any seepage. It really is not much. Most importantly, don't drop the the tank. Second most important careful not to bash the fuel delivery tube on the floor when you set the tank down.

YOur back is going to be killing you. Take your time. RAcing and wrenching are two different things in my book.

Rook believe me, I'm taking my time, bike has been down two weeks now. I only have the Cox radiator guard, pcv and secondary fan left to install. Thanks for the info on the fuel tank, I was waiting your response before I disconnected the fuel lines.

You know I'm contemplating removing my flies... is that a #2 Philips screwdriver used?

Yes. I guess if you are going to get into tuning or self tuning at some point, it is worth while on your updated gen1. It won't hurt, in any case. Just I did not notice any real difference flies out until the map adjustment was made.

yup, #2 screwdriver. LONG stem...like 9". Brand new, sharp. don't buy a cheapy, get a decent screwdriver. soldering pen to heat screws...I used a burnzomatic torch to heat the screw driver I bought (still in service BTW).

photobucket screwed the whole internet over. I will load the pics up to the forum ASAP. Thanks for asking. Probably get to it tonight. I am sure it is the same routine for the 14r as the Gen1.
