The weekend from hell
08/04/14 12:46 AM

Not sure where or how to put this, and don't want to hi-jack Beans thread either. Anyway.... I just wanted to vent.
The same day that Bean went down on his bike, almost at the very same time, I was waiting for Bean who had gone down, unknown to us at the time. We waited at the end of the road and I got caught out with the ground sloping away from me on one side and the bike shifted a tiny bit off center. In putting some pressure on my leg to balance it, my foot slipped away on the gravel beneath my feet and the ANIML started it's steady descent onto the deck. It was only steady because I almost broke my leg and back (which is stuffed anyway) trying to gently guide the big boy down. FAAAAAARK!!! I screamed at the top of my voice. I picked it up with the help of the other rider and took a look at the damage. Not a big deal. Only a scratched up lower fairing, mirror, slider, bar end and the carbon Yoshi. The damage I guess was only minor, but I was totally devastated. It's absolutely my pride and joy.
After a few minutes to compose myself, I decided that given that Bean had still not caught up, I'd head back and track him down. After a few worrisome minutes I spotted a flash of white about 20mt off in the scrub. Ohhh no! Surely not? Yes it was. Bean was laying in the scrub all bent out of shape. He was in pretty bad shape. I stayed by his side doing everything I could to attend to him, keeping him calm and comfortable until help arrived.
The point being that the events of this last week have me pretty rattled. It's hard to keep it all in perspective. Constantly recalling Beans pain and injuries up close, his mashed up bike, and my less than perfect bike. I know there have been worse, but this was a weekend from hell.

I know exactly how that feels. Dropped the 14 in a very similar manner. If it helps, just know that actually being by the bike and offering any support as it goes down makes a definite difference in the damage that gets done. i know because I also fropped my busa two times off the kickstand. It just fell. Not just paint damage, fairings busted, Fairing bracket bent. Not so easy to just do a touch up on that. You'll get over it completely in a few months. I know it takes time. Sucks in the meantime.

Never came across a friend who crashed. That might stay with you a while longer. No doubt make you more wary which can't hurt. You can still ride hard and be on guard.

Maybe it was a good day in a way. You saved your bike and your buddy. Coulda let the bike drop. Mighta kept going 10 km down the road before you ever thought about Bean. Good thing you were there for both situations.

Thanks Jimmy and Rook. It sort of helps knowing that you guys understand. Actually Rook it might have been around 5 or 10 km where we waited for him. We had assumed he waved me past beforehand to take a nature stop. I guess I'll know soon enough, but I reckon the whole thing is going to either slow me down, or make me defiant. Not sure which is worse.

Slowing down doesn't sound very 'manly'...but who gives a shit.I've begun to ease up myself...I was riding way above what I should be responsibly on the street.I save the higher stuff for the corners that are visible. This bird rides remarkably sweet at 65 to 90.I'm getting back into actually enjoying the performance variations of this bike. It's very fun just sweeping through the curves at 65...75...90....hell...if ya wreck...it's YOU....think 'they' give a shit with the high speed talk and all? They don't.They gonna pay your hospital bills and rebuild yer bike?...I DON'T THINK SO;)

It's YOUR ride and YOUR life....do what feels good to you....

Yeah, you're right Grn. I'm far more likely to be resolute and do my damnedest to change nothing. I love what I do on the bike. I feed on the fun I have when riding. Like you explain though, I do like to push just a little on the road. Usually only when the corners are either predictable or visible though. I have to just rationalize it as simply a bad day, and it wasn't my accident. You know it's really helpful talking to you guys about this. It helps to arrange my thoughts. Getting the bike back to form will no doubt take the sting out of it too.

More than likely, we'll get some warning signs if we need to change our riding style for safety. Tickets, close calls, hopefully not a crash ... All those things make an impression. There's always a place and a time to leap into hyperspace but like Grn said, the bike is a lot of fun at not so illegal speeds. On the expressways around here, it's a challenge to take most ramps over 60 mph for me. If I want, I can nail it on exiting. The expressways have a danger too though. A 60 mph crash can be lethal if it involves a guard rail or flying over the edge of an elevated ramp. I know if I see the warning signs, I'm going to reduce the frequency of the risky behavior. LOL that's why I don't cruise around the interstate at 90+ mph anymore. I got stopped a couple times and then I got a big ticket.

That was a bad weekend from hell. It's weird how some of this stuff happens, the buzzword is synchronicity I think. When I had my old bike, two of my really good friends wrecked the same weekend. One Friday early evening and one Saturday night.

Neither were as bad as beans. One (Friday) needed a couple dozen stitches on his forehead and basically he got really, really lucky. Bike (FZR 600) was totaled, head-on at somewhere between 35-40 with an idiot had car parked illegally on wrong side of the street (may have mentioned this before). The other was just kind of crazy and laid his bike down pretty hard (no MSF, don't even think he had an M, had his bike for a couple months). Both were sore and had some road rash too. They basically hung out with each other for the next 3 weeks recouping. Neither got back into riding, which is a shame cause the guy who needed stitches was a really good rider.

Firstly I have to give thanks to the Truck driver, cause it was at least half an hour before he found me!!! then of cause one of the two police officers was great the other a prick! and what I would call my closest new mate Sweetfa65 !! Im sorry for you Stephen that I caused you this stress and to that effect my wife and a lot of other friends, also the shit spill of your pride N joy!!! im two days out of my follow up surgery now a little less swollen and able to move around slowly,im glad i,ve had great work standereds as my foreman dropped in yesterday to assure me instead of 6 weeks im done for at least 12 weeks now that my job is safe! I have my new style of machine waiting for me so things should only improve from now on,thanks again Sweetfa65 your a mate to me for life!!

Hey bro. It wasn't you that caused any stress. It was just "happenstance". Seems there were greater forces at hand, what with my GF dropping her GPX250 the week before, your accident, and then my drop. Out of all the three, I clearly got off the lightest. No injuries and only minor damage. What a chain of events though. The ANIML is not far off being fixed now. I've replaced the damaged fairings, the mirrors are being completely resprayed (all in gloss), and the Yoshi R77 is being touched up. I should have them back any day now. I'm sanding the gouges out of the frame slider tonight. Once that's all done, balance will be restored and the world will be good again. lol. I only wish that it was that easy for you too. I'll be here to turn a wheel with you as soon as you are good to roll. It's awesome that your work are being cool too. Keep your eye on the prize mate.

Yeah, crashes suck, even the little ones. I fell over in a gravel driveway at 0 mph. The only saving grace was it threw my wife and her WHITE riding jacket right into a mud puddle. Luckily we both have a sense of humor.

Bean my man, its a lesson I learnt years ago.

1. Decide whats required next for the bike.
2. Purchase or order clandestinely.
3. DO NOT ASK.
4. Put up with the fire storm when the wife sees whats arrived (again) or checks our accounts.
5. When she calms down I still have my upgrades.

It's actually how I purchased my first bike years and years ago because all she wanted to do was talk about it rather than buy!

I think that just maybe, she's getting a little use to it now.
It's called repetitive training.

But I wouldn't have the balls to say any of this in front of her...

Classic example of male v female response to a change in the plan. Women want to talk about how they feel and men want to act. ...generally speaking, that is.

All fixed, and looking glorious.
Hearing you guys makes me giggle to myself. I'm 3 wives (all ex) and no kids. BRING ON THE TOYS!!! I just give myself a stern talking to when I get broke. Me: "Ok you.... beans on toast for tea for the next week". Me: "Awwww.... ok then". Me: "Look what came in the post today". Me: "YAYYY ME!!!".
Give me a shout when you come down yannih, and I'll join you. If you want to shoot the breeze while you're down, I even have a 07 ZX10R that you can borrow.
