Exhaust Decisions
05/19/17 3:12 AM

I just got my Zx14r and I was wondering if anyone has or has heard the scorpion serkets slip ons? I was looking at graves exhaust but I read a forum were something happened to it and customer service was awful.
I've been reading through the forums and revzilla as well as youtube. I want something in the medium range as far as loudness goes like around 6-7 out of 10. I'm not looking for any power gains but I was reading that the 2016 models have a cat in the header and no longer in the muffler. I know that people love their r77 full systems. Any thoughts or comments you would like to add would be appreciated. Also cost isn't an issue.. I'm not afraid to go all out but I think slip ons will be plenty. I like the idea of not having to flash or fuel map the ecu for stability reasons. Kawasaki nailed it with the zx14 In the reliability area.

I have them in the carbon can variation and love them. Picked them because they will NEVER need packing re-placed, they sound great, come with a center stand stop if you add it. And if you add luggage, you will not need to drop them at all! They come with decibel killers, I would take those out, AND they are MUCH easier to take out if you do it pre-install. No need to mess with fuel injection etc, although I assume a power commander or ecu flash would add a bit more power...

The weight difference probably will be about 5 lbs. The power difference will be about 8-12 hp. I believe you will enjoy approximately the same handling with slipons as you would with a full system and an extra 12 hp at close to peak rpm is not something you will notice a great either unless you race. If you feel the cats are restricting flow at midrange right now, you might not get rid of that with slipons.

I aways recommend a full system unless you can get slipons very VERY cheap just to try them and see how you like it.

If you plan to keep the bike for 5 years or more, I'd say full system is the way to go. There will be no regrets a few years down the line. Buy the best once and avoid upgrades.

I would also suggest a PC5 or flash to optimize performance but mostly to ensure a healthy AFR. Flash is the way to go if you don't want to fiddle with electronics. PC5 and Wideband2 is the way to go if you need it perfect. Flash on the Gen2 is good for a lot of features in addition to AFR. The best setup is to flash and refine with PC5 and WB2 and maybe an ignition module. Dj does make a PC5+igniton which is probably a wise and more economical choice.

Hey Timo on a scale of 1-10 with the inserts out how loud would you rate the new scorpions?

Yeah Rook PC5 for sure.. I had one for my Yamaha raider. Got me 117hp and 132lbs of torque for a cruiser :P

Also is anyone familiar with Beowulf exhausts from England. The sound on the one youtube clip I found is really nice and the price conversion is still under 600 dollars for titanium and carbon fiber.....whaaaaaaat.

Sorry for going but could anyone tell me about any cost involved in importing?

I was going to go with visorshop.com in Britain for tyres.

Wolphyte, maybe a 7 at most? I had Muzzy slip-ons on my 2006 ZX14, and they were definitely quite a bit louder. I cant imagine your neighbors would mind the Scorpions at all. I really do like the sound and look of these things...
