There's a road test in this weeks MCN H2 v R1 v Hayabusa. H2 wins the straight line speed shootout but not so good in the handling dept. Low MPG and poor tank range are also mentioned but I guess owner's won't be too concerned about that! The new R1 seems to be in a league of it's own in the twisties.

I noticed the tank range is a bit shorter than what I'm used to...with my 14R.The motor's still breaking in,and I'm getting around 34 mpg most of the time...though I've managed to get higher at different times while riding. There's a sweet spot with this motor.I'll dial it in.But yeah,it does require some attention to get the most out of it.Fill ups are definitely sooner with this bike.Certainly doesn't have the range of my 14.But understandable considering.

As far as track running...IDK...but for the street, this bike is absolutely tops.So far...been railing pretty good with her in the curves....she's doing great.Great handling and balance.Lean ins are much better than my 14.And staying on a line...much more solid as well.Powering out is very good...no twitching or going wide from the weight.Very stable.Definitely corners better than my 14.As it should.

The R1M is the closest thing to a MotoGP bike since Ducati decided to streetify the Desmosedici, so the plain jane R1
should handle well. Whether or not it's handling potential can be utilized on the street is another matter. I don't think KHI had MotoGP characteristics in mind when they designed the H-bikes. I think it was more a "top this outrageous thing, if you can" just like the original H1 and Z1. The Z1's couldn't outhandle BMWs without help, but not nearly as many people will say "R90S" when asked about the wildest machine of their youth as will say "Z1 900"
