BMC filter
09/23/10 6:36 PM

When I bought my bike the previous owner had installed a BMC race air filter, but I saw alot of discussions on different forums to rather this is safe in a street bike. Am I worrying about nothing? Its kind of got me wanting to go to a street version for the peace of mind and would something that minor need to be remapped? If I clean regularly would it be safe? Dont feel like dropping 60 bucks on another one, but dont want dirt in my engine ether. Thanks!

In reply to original question, don't bother paying for another BMC. Even the "race" filter won't help your street legal ZX14 and might harm it. Just put the OEM filter on, which works perfectly, and is under warranty.

Brocks Performance has proven, both on the dyno and on the strip and track, the ZX14 in stock form will not perform any better with a so-called "race" filter on it, compared to the OEM filter.

I heard the same deal with the BMC race version.I took mine out after that, went back to stock...just to feel okay with it all.Honestly, for a streetbike...how much could an airfilter change the performance on our bikes anyway? Not worth the risk I'm thinkin. When that Ram Air takes effect, she pulls like a freight train anyway!

Sounds good guys...its coming out and OEM is going in. I would rather lose 1 hp and keep my engine clean. I got it out today to clean it and after I got all the bees out of it and held it up I was surprised to say the least. My screen door filters more air. Thanks guys!
